Mixture of usual issues......

Post by j2112 »

Recently bought this car as you know. It's been sat on the drive while I tinker and clean it. I have opened the roof on several occasions in good weather and went to do the same today. But it didn't work. I was heading out so didn't dwell on it and opened all the windows instead.
So tonight went out for a quick look. Both roof latches seem to be ok and I get the 'bong' when they are opened - one bong when the second latch is opened, is that right?
When I poke my finger inside the latch and press the switch I get a bong on both.
But now the windows don't work either, despite working earlier. What's the link to the windows not operating?
Too late/dark now really to be playing about but I really need to check out the boot area. Blind switch seems ok, clicking etc. Need to check the orientation of the white clips I suppose too.
Another post suggested cable tying the boot lock to the lid on both sides to ensure correct operation once a full cycle is completed, but I don't know what this means if someone could please advise?
Thanks a lot

Another post suggests the windows won't operate if the car doesn't think the roof is closed. Maybe the roof switches aren't quite right, though I can get a bong from both manually?

It may be that the electronics have become confused. When that happens, like all computers, you have to reset them. The drill for this is known as a "BSI reboot".

See http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?c ... ot_process

It can't do any harm, as long as you follow the drill, and, you never know, it may help.

Thank you :)
Still reading here, and some have issues with the 'boot open' alert - I don't get that warning.
I'll try the reset - you never know!

Only thing that disables the windows is opening the latches, until the roof is in the boot, so you probably got a dodgy one, you should get the bong on opening the first one only since they are just in series with each other.

Hmmm. Interesting. I get the bong on the second latch, no matter which I open first.

Out this morning and windows are operating, so was able to do the BSI reset. Unfortunately there's no change in the roof operation. Gave the roof switches a taste of maintenance spray to see if they're sticking but will consider other options in the meantime.

Just thinking too, the rear of the car was recently up on ramps. Could that have upset something maybe?

The body is "rather flexible", so it could be that one of the switches which monitor the boot lid, etc is not making contact. You could try driving over a few bumps to see if you can "shake things down".

Worth a try I suppose :)
Checked the pillar top switches, boot lock and blind as best as possible and they seem OK. Have to delve a bit further tomorrow.

Battery was charged up tonight (to about 75% anyway according to the charger), just in case it was too low. No change though. Starting to think I'm actually doing something wrong?

Have you got a handbook to show you the sequence? You can download a PDF version from this site ... search for handbook ... but for now ...

Tried the procedure mentioned here.....

.....but no joy. When I press the button to close the roof it just starts its beeping.

Sounds like its disabled the roof. If you constantly try to operate the roof and the microswitches are faulty it will do this to prevent injury to you and damage to itself, youll need pp2000 now to clear the faults. You could get another ecu and it will work bit it will only happen again.

Does your speedo work properly?
