Assistance Bristol Area

Post by DangerMaus »

Hi all,

Forum noob here. Bought my wife a lovely little red Pug 206CC a few months ago and all has been good... until Saturday. Went out for a topless spin, got back and the roof failed part way up (as the main roof section closed it just started beeping a lot and left the boot open at about 60 degrees.

Managed to get the hydraulics released so I could close it manually and then lock it with the pins, but it still seems to think the roof's not closed. When driving we just get a constant beep warning tone. Also the bloody gold-coloured screw for the hydraulics seems to have stripped itself where the allen key goes so we can't engage the hydraulics again.

I've had a poke around at the micro-switches and can't find anything obviously wrong :(

Can anyone provide a recommendation of where I can get some help round the South Glos / Bristol area please?

Bit of a long way to go, not sure I could put up with the warning alarm in my ears for two hours.

Thanks for replying though, glad there's still life on here.

Well, you are going to need the hydraulic unit repaired/exchanged, and that's what they do. You could phone them for some advice about quieting the alarm, so you could make the trip.

You could try Slo's relay trick. It's posted in the roof section somewhere.
Cheers Col.

He can't do that because the hydraulics can't be pressurised. The hydraulic unit has to be fixed first.

Roof pump replacement is pretty straight forward, they're around £40 on fleabay, make sure its topped up to the correct level with the correct fluid otherwise your roof still won't work, if you need any help give me a shout and I'll dig out the my Haynes manual which I think details how to change it and how to top it up.

I just wanted to give an update. Due to the bloody cold, dark nights by the time I get home from work, I contacted a local garage (Westerleigh Car Centre) who said they could fix the roof for me. Went down there first thing this morning to book her in, but the mechanic want to have a look with me first so I could explain the issue. He got a sturdy pair of lockable mole-grips and managed to re-instate the hydraulic system, then somehow we got the left side of the boot to actually lock in position as it should do.

This time (as before) the roof opened perfectly fine, but went to close it and it stopped at the same position. While I kept the lever pressed for closing, he put some pressure on the roof and it suddenly decided to continue closing completely and the alarm stopped.

Took her for a quick spin and confirmed the roof is now registered as correctly closed, whihc was the prime concern for my missus driving to work each day.

The mechanic spent about 15 minutes with me doing this - and the garage charged nothing at all, which was a very pleasant surprise. I know I've still got an issue to look at - which I can do when the weather gets a little warmer - but I couldn't recommend them highly enough for their service and attitude.

If anyone in this area does get stuck then they're http www dot westerleighcarcentre dot co dot uk

Sounds like you've not got enough pressure in the system to close the roof, I'd certainly check the oil level in the roof pump to start with.
