Dont shoot me but I was reading some posts on the Racing Puma forum and found this about squealing brakes.

==========================================================
It never ceases to amaze me at what twoddle dealers talk at times. The facts are as follows; customers were complaining of squeel particularly following a dealer service where pads were changed. After an investigation into the issues by myself and Alcon, the component supplier, we concluded that this was not related to the component but rather the way the vehicle is serviced. The reason for this conclusion is that when the car goes in for the service it is ok and when it comes out it is a little pig. I personally watched a brake service being carried out by a dealer to see what was being done.

A TSB was then written and is now in the system, indeed some of the members had this proceedure carried out on their cars and all is now ok, no discs replaced. The problem is when the mechanic pushes the dirty caliper piston back into the caliper to fit the new pads. All this muck gets pushed into the clean side, which can bind up when you apply the brakes causing a squeel, hum or both.

We have never considered a new material, softer or otherwise, as this would dramatically affect the stopping power of your car.

This could well be the problem with the CC's, muck on the brake caliper piston.

Hope it is helpfull.

Hmmmm, There is a large dust seal that protects the Caliper Piston.. So no dirt can find its way in..

However Peugeot changed the pad design & the caliper yoke during 2001.. The new pads allegedly have "improved" anti squeal shims fitted.. But it sounds like that ain't the case..

In fact I can think of 4 different pad designs over the last 2 1/2 years of the life of the 206GTi/GT/CC..

Hi,

I thought the 206cc brake system was the same as the 206gti? If it is, shouldn't their brakes squeak also? I've not heard them have this problem. :???:
