Hi all, just bought a 206cc - about 18 months old with 7600 miles on the clock. I'm having what you will probably consider a daft problem with the radio - when I turn it on although I can hear a radio station it keeps 'beeping'. I'm in the process of charging the battery and suspect the garage jump started the car when I picked it up as it wouldn't start again when I got home and turned the engine off. Bit disappointing! Do I now need a code for the radio? I can't see one in the paperwork. If yes, how do I enter the code?
Also, to the left of the drivers left leg down towards the footwell there is a credit card sized keypad attached to the console. Any idea what this could be? The car has a Thatcham alarm fitted so maybe it's something to do with that. Again, should I have been given a code for this?
Any help would be gratefully received.

Not a good start.
Don't think your radio will need a code. I believe it should only work in the car it was installed in.
I'd take it back to the garage you bought it from and tell them that you want it sorting out properly.
Get them to answer your keypad query too.

Found this on the 206Info forum:
"Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I've just had the exact same problem on my pug..its a plexed model (54 plate). Got in the car and started the engine and the beeping started - and it wouldn't go off. Basically the same as described above
Car is under warranty so I drove it straight to the pug dealer, who wouldn't look at it there an then as the techies were on their lunch (grrr), so i've left it with them.
Of course when I went to get my things out of the car the beeping had stopped, so I suspect I will get a phone call shortly telling me there's nothing wrong.
I guess that you never worked out what the problem was then?
LATER: Got my car back - they called me up and asked me to bring in my spare key + blue card, as they wanted to do a BSI update on my car..apparently its a known fault with that software version so hopefully all fixed now! "

Thanks for the info guys. The strange thing is the 'beeping' only starts when I turn the radio on so I can't imagine that it's indicating that there's a fault with any other aspect of the car. This keypad in the drivers footwell is a mystery. I think a journey to the garage is needed only problem is I can't get there 'till next Saturday.

OK. Best of luck. Must be disappointing when you've just bought it. Hopefully they'll sort it quickly and then you can just enjoy the car.
Perhaps you'll feed back how you get on so that others on the forum will benefit from your experience please.
Thanks, Ron

Just a bit of feedback. I put the battery on charge overnight and the car started this morning. When I turned the radio on there was no 'beeping'. Six hours later (Sunday afternoon) went to start the car but no luck. Must be a dud battery. The car was from Motorhouse in Cannock, Staffordshire - my first purchase from them - and I shall be contacting them again tomorrow. I now suspect they jump started the car when I went to pick it up as the salesman didn't turn the engine off before I got into it to drive it away. I suppose it's no big deal but it's spoilt what should be a great experience!
I now realise the small keypad I've been refering to is to do with a Sigma alarm. I think it has to be used if the Sigma keyfob fails to work. Again no instructions or code received.
Really do appreciate everyones input.

That probably explains the beeping. I'm pretty sure the ECU "remembers" the key code of the radio installed in the car. When the battery goes totally dead I guess it has to "reboot" the information in some way when power is back on.
I suppose the battery check is the first thing, but there could be a constant drain on the battery somewhere, even with the ignition off.
Whatever, it is the seller's responsibility to put it right isn't it? Sounds as if the salesman knew there was a problem.
Good luck tomorrow.

Final update on this. Motorhouse came out on Monday morning and replaced the battery. Since then all has been fine. Mystery keypad turns out to be linked to Sigma alarm which is operated from a keyfob. Could do with finding out what the code is in case keyfob fails to work. I suspect the garage won't have that info. Anyway, many thanks to all for their assistance.

Well done! and thanks for feeding back the result.
It can take the shine off owning a new car when you have problems from day one. Hopefully you can now enjoy your 206cc fully.

I recently got a 206cc roland garros (2005) it has about 55000km on the clock being in South Africa I do not have many problems with dampnes etc.
A couple of weeks ago my Anti Pollution fault started to act up every once in a while a day later the [h][/h]radio started beeping[h][/h] and I also had airbag faults etc.
Changed the battery and no more problems. I installed a Sound System With a 2000W Amp so I opted for a Larger battery. (only one size larger).
I was thinking about it and figured that the weak batery caused a lack of performance seeing as there was not enough spark this causes unburnt feul to go through the outlet manifould, the lambda sencors detects this and the whole system acts up.
Ive had the battery in four weeks and not one hiccup.

Thats excactly how mine started. I hope its nothing for your sake.
But have not had one problem since the new battery.
Only problem is some drunk:drunk: broke my mirror on the drivers side. Parts are very expensive in South Africa and there aren't many Pugs in the scrapyards. The dealers said it would cost aprox. R3000.00 (less than 300.00 pounds) lucky for me a contact at a panelbeater got me one for about R1800.00.
