My 206cc(2004) has recently been having starting problems,i get in turn the key and all i get is a click? No running problems when it does start, but so annoying if it wont, ive had to park on a hill this evening!!
Sometimes if left a few hours it sorts itself out,,however today it wouldnt start until i pushed it onto the hill to jump start it.
Any Help would be much appreciated,,its due an mot on the 11th so i guess ill have it looked at then.
.Please help im off out in an hour and a half so hope she starts..
Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You don't say which engine you have and I assume it's a manual gearbox.
You don't say how many miles it has done or when it was last serviced and by whom.
The click is probably the starter solenoid operating so it could be that not enough current is getting to the starter motor to operate it. I would check
a) the leads to the battery - are they tight, and are they clean with no corrosion.
b) check the leads/connections to the starter motor - are they tight, are they clean, are there any cracked terminals or evidence of fraying.
c) check earth strap/connections
d) if all the above are ok, and you're sure that the battery itself is in tip-top condition then I'd get the starter motor itself checked out

Hi Ron,,
Thanks for your help and reply.
Its a 1600 engine-206cc Allure with manual gearbox and fully serviced to 60,000 miles, service done by peug.garage.Im sure the connections to the battery are clean and tight, but will have all this checked out today(hopefully)
It did start after an hour or two but then later that night same problem again, just a click.
I will get my friend to check leads connections and battery Sunday afternoon(im not great with cars) and get back to you Ron.

Thanks in the meantime,,wish me luck..

Blimey Kevin,

You were in late, or up very early.

Good luck.

I'd check the earth strap first, and go from there.

Thanks Kevin,
Best of luck with the MOT and the starting issue.

Would you feed back the eventual solution and how much it costs please.

GSF are quoting £75 for an exchange s/m for a 1.1/1.4 206 and yours will be a bit more than that (probably £90 ish for an exchange one). Then you'll have the labour charge on top. So I hope it's a connection or earthing fault rather than the motor itself.
Best Wishes, Ron

Kevin reported back as follows:

My pug needed a new starter motor at just over £100 fitted, sailed through her m.o.t after replacing front brake pads but then two days later I needed a bit for the exhaust..lol all in all less than £300!!
