Hi All
Can any one tell me why my 206cc 1.6 16v (Y) feels like its lacking power were my XR2i 1.6 8v (J) flew but they claim to have the same 110 BHP?
Is my CC sick or is that just how they were made and would an air filter and a few other mods get me back to what i'm use to?
thanx for any replies:love-thx::thumbs:

Thank you GrandadMonkey
Took it to a rolling road today to find out what BHP it had to offer, they refused to put it on because it old? Anyway after a quiet word they checked the car over before the road test and found that the head gasket is leaking water from all around (wondered why I was filling her rad with water every other day) so I phoned about six garages all replies came back like this:-
£500-£758 and will take a week to do.
So my question to all is where can I get the information so I can do it myself? (I have a Budget of £300)
And can it be done within three days? (If I get all the bits first?)
By the way because I missed a service the warranty is void and they are refusing to pay for it.

any coments are very welcome:scratch:

A Haynes manual for the 206 will give you the procedure for head gasket replacement but for the novice it is a big job and you would need a good toolkit with a socket set and various types of socket. While the head is off it would be a good idea to renew the timing belt if this has never been changed. The head may need skimming if you've been driving it while it's been losing water. The job can be done in a day if you are experienced and have all the facilities. I assume the garages are quoting a week because they are busy and would need to book you in. Try to use an independent Peugeot specialist rather than going for the cheapest quote if you get a garage to do it.
I'm surprised you didn't tell us it was losing water in your original post because we could have diagnosed the probability of head gasket failure from that symptom, instead of just comparing the nippiness of the 206cc v XR2i.
Proper servicing is essential with these cars. The service interval is quite long anyway so why miss them? An expensive lesson for you which others may learn from.

head gasket can easily be done in a day. think pug book time is 8hrs.
tis pretty full on and not advisabile if you never done one before.
performance of the cc is heavily tainted by the fact of strict emissions and sound laws,as well as trying to keep it econmical as possible to run.xr2i is old school and most of the regulations werent imposed when made so made for one hell of a car.
eg..old pug 205 1.6 tu engine 1989 =roughly 110 bhp
new pug 206 1.6 same tu engine=roughly 89,92 bhp
my advice,get it chipped.
where you live?

Hi everyone
Thanks for all the replies and words of wisdom and I hope many do learn from my mistake and from your advice, when I noticed it was losing water. I thought the header tank was leaking through the PRC (pressure Realise Cap)as it always looked wet around the it when I went to fill it back up.
I don’t trust the radiator repair stuff as I was later going to mod the engine and the last thing I wanted was to block water ways and plus I thought it would not have worked as I thought it was the PRC at the time.
Nearest Pug dealer is:- Swansea CEM DAYS
I’m From outside Neath
Thanks again
