I have come across a problem with my car on starting. It starts ok in the mornings but when I get back in it to start again, I just get a single click then nothing! This has happened 5 times today (on doing a few journeys). It does however, eventually start. I have done a battery check which was fine and showed the battery was in "good health" and 100% charged.
I was beginning to price up a starter motor as I thought this may be the problem but on turning the key again and it firing up, I heard the "bing" that you get when the roof is fully open and my doors locked!!!
I rang the dealers who suggested that I take it to them for a diagnostic check but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and can suggest something else before I part with my hard earned cash!!
Hi julee,
Sorry to hear you're having problems.
Haven't come across this myself. When this happens and you just get the single click, if you switch on your headlamps and put them on main beam (with the ignition on) do your headlamps work and shine brightly or are they dim? If so that could indicate a broken earth lead or dodgy battery connection. I have heard that earth leads that attach to the gearbox have been known to break.

I will have to check the lights later. Ive found that it starts first time when been stood for a while but on stop-start journeys, thats when I have the problem!!!
Thanks for your feedback anyway and I shall check the lights tonight.
Ive checked the lights and they are ok. This is a starting problem only when the car is warm and I turn off the engine to just nip in somewhere like a shop.
Its getting very embarrasing now............
Its broken down as I speak and Im just waiting a call back to see if it starts or not!!!
Getting really peed off with my Pug!!!!!!!!:firedevil:
I think a trip to the dealers is happening very soon! Has anybody else had this problem and do you think it is the starter motor/solenoid or would I really need the diagnostic check as suggested by the dealers???
I am finally geting closer to the prob I have with my car!! It starts from cold, drive it, turn engine off and wont restart...............well the temperature guage goes up quite quickly, the fan comes on and its very hot under the bonnet!
Ive found that the band around the water bottle has come away and I have a grey/white chalky substance (looks like the bottle itself has been resting on a hot part of the engine).
Could this be a problem with my water pump or is there a sensor that automatically shuts the engine down if the car gets too hot? I have the car booked into a garage on Mon but any info in the meantime would be very helpful!!!!!
