We have had this problem for 3 years, when its clear its fine, but as soon as it gets a bit wet and cold its a pain. However we have never not been able to drive, solwly, and it has always sorted it self within 15 mins or so.
Good luck, sounds like the tappets is the next thing to try as you have done the coil pack and lambda sensor already....

Right so despite the pain of it all it's ok to drive my car at least?
Really don't want to get tappets done unless 100% necessary.
Thinking about it now...about a month or so ago on a FREEZING morning my engine wouldn't start AT ALL. First time ever. Problems have been happening since then.
Oh and my warning lights come on and off on a daily basis.
Soooo annoying. Seriously thinking about buying a Ford. haha

well we drove - many times, and it always sorted it self out. Worst was in the rain on the M6 it stayed on for 30 miles. Then next day was fine!!

omg it gets worse.
The lights have been off for a week now. Which is a record. But the engine still sounds bad, and now, today, it's majorly failed it's MOT on emissions.
The garage I took it too are saying they suspect the problem is actually with the ECU and told me to book it in with Peugeot for a diagnostics test, which I have...it's going in tomorrow.
I'm terrified. This is an expensive job right...if they have to replace the ECU?

Well I'm glad my posts are being read and replied to...
So today it went to Peugeot who ran a full diagnostics test and found a cylinder 1 fault reading. They said they didn't think there was a fault with the ecu because upon starting the car it takes a minute or so for the engine to start misfiring plus there are no internal error faults registering.
They asked if they could strip it down and look at the fuel injectors as they suspected a fault there was causing the misfiring. They did this and found nothing wrong so checked the spark plugs...the one in cylinder 1 had gone...so they replaced it and suddenly the engine sounds much better and runs normally!
So at the mo the engine's running fine. it's going tomorrow for the emissions retest.
Could it honestly just be as simple as the spark plugs? Causing all that trouble? When the engine management lights first came on they were replaced. Then they discovered the coil pack was damaged (it actually was....I saw myself that cylinder one coil was all brown and burnt out) so replaced that but never checked the plugs at this point. Could the damaged coil pack have blown the first replaced plug? Then when the coil pack was changed but the plug wasn't this was still causing a misfire?
Honestly this has been the most stressful 2 days of my life worrying myself sick about this car.
I'm so pessimistic about this and after reading a heck of a lot of websites/other people experiences with these things I'm just waiting for the problem to raise its ugly head again. I've read that replacing/cleaning spark plugs can sometimes appear to fix problems but doesn't really.

Your posts are being read. If other folks don't feel they know the answer I doubt if they'll reply.
The fault now seems to have been diagnosed. I have heard that if plugs or coil packs are faulty it is better to replace both with new at the same time, and always use the correct Bosch plugs. reap has posted several times on this issue and a search of his posts on the forum would turn up useful information for you.
A faulty coil pack can damage a plug, and vice versa, so if you don't replace both at the same time you never get rid of the fault and it gets expensive.

Hey all,
Recently joined this site and have a 2001 206cc with a faulty exhaust. Anyone know any good mechanics in Reading, Berkshire? Recently moved from London and my old mechanic is too far away now!!!
I have been quoted £412 by Kwik Fit, but my old mechanic fitted a brand new exhaust for just under £300 2 years ago. Any ideas please...?

I've also had the error this week. Car started shaking heavily, driving on 3 cilinders, going into "protection mode".
Had`the coil pack and spark plugs exchanged (coil pack is this thing, right? :

total costs: 260 euros ( about 200 quid)

Yep, that's it.
Seems pricey though, GSF sell them for about £70 in the UK and plugs are about £3 or £4 each. Simple job to do too. I suppose you had it done by a garage with the labour costs that go with it.
Has it cured the problem? That's the main thing.

Hi all, this is my first post. I have a 2002, 2 litre model. I've had this issue since I got the car in 2006. She's an old girl, but still going just fine. I had the software updated, new spark plugs etc but not had the 1.8 tappets & lambda sensor done. This problem only crops up in winter in the mornings and evenings.
I've spoken to a couple of honest guys at Peugeot over the years and they confirmed that the car will be fine as long as I let it warm up on cold mornings. I've been doing this for a year.

Antipollution warning was a problem so got diagnostic done - this identified the cat being faulty. Had it replaced - no warning lights - hooray!. 200 miles later the dreaded warning has reared its ugly head again. Going in for ANOTHER diagnostic check tomorrow. Here we go again!
A separate problem arose on the same day - all dashboard instruments failed!
Any ideas - I read this may be a dry joint on the instrument pcb and may lead to an instrument cluster replacement - expensive!
Car runs brilliantly through all this!
