Oil level indicator

The dashboard oil indicator is playing silly devils. Sometimes it indicates full, sometimes its minus one or two O's and just now it was a row of flashing lines - panic - panic. The dip stick however indicates it full of oil. Anyone else had this? Where is the sensor on the engine in case its just a bad electrical connection?
