Hello,
Ive had my pug over a yr now - first problem was tyre blowing up one the motorway and a £200 recovery truck ride home due to no spare tyre (which I accepted as there isnt much space in the boot - fair enough)
Now, a re-occurring gem of a problem... My engine light came on.... aside from nearly having a panic attack on the M25 I took it to a local pug garage for the diagnostics and was informed the problem was the exhaust incl cat was not a "genuine" peugout part... and therefore causing engine to come on and stay on... I had only had a new exhaust fitted 2 months before that for £250 and couldnt afford £650 peugout wanted to charge me for a new one? am i missing a trick here? So i drove to my hearts content with the engine light on - constantly worrying but not wanting to fork out £650!!
Recently I was out driving and I ran over some mental/ concrete that had fallen onto the road in a accident it looked like (I tried to avoided it but couldnt get round it in time!) My exhaust as a result was knocked and bent out of shape slight causing a loud rattle against the back bumper! Argh! so took it too Bagshot tyre and Exhaust garage - (guys in there are GREAT by the way, if you live in Surrey i would deffo recommend them) they replaced my exhaust £280 and... what do you know.... 6 weeks later - ON flicks my engine light again!... Im going to get my diagnostic test done this week but I truly cant believe this keeps happening! The guy who fitted my exhaust knows another lady who has a 206cc and the exact same problem
GUTTED - to say the least.

Hi - Only just joined this site while trying to find a drivers side seat belt for my pug 206 cc cos mine has jammed, they have quoted me £156 for a new one!!!!!!! I too have the dreaded catalytic convertor/anti pollution on my 52 plate and am very relieved to see that it is a common fault - I have taken mine to the garage on a number of occasions and nothing gets picked up on the diagnostics wotsit. My way round it is letting my car warm up for 5 mins beore I set off on cold/wet mornings just revving the engine very slightly but constantly, this stops the fault coming on. The other morning though it was freezing and I didn't rev the engine quite hard enough and the fault came on and it started juddering. When this happens I switch the engine off then on again and the juddering stops but the warning light stays on for a while but normally clears itself by the next day.

Hi, all
I have the same problem - the engine shudders while cold, sometimes the "antipollution fault", "catalytic converter fault" or "ASR/ESP deactivated" messages coming. After 2-3 days the messages are gone but the shudder stays.
I have gone to three diagnostics. As no errors were detected in the computer, two of the diagnostics told me the most possible fault is mechanical - the tappets. My engine is 2.0 16V
The local dealer told me that the change of tappets is about 500E. Seems a high but fair price if all the 16 tappets are changed with new, adding the labor and the other stuff like gaskets which are also changed.
So, I think I am going for the tappet change and I hope this will resolve the problem

You don't mention the age of your 206cc, nor its mileage or service history. If your cambelt is due for change soon why not consider getting that replaced at the same time. It could save money in the long run. Get them to check the water pump too while they're at it.
I assume you have tried an oil & filter change already. The interval of 2 years, 20,000 miles for an oil and filter change is too long in my opinion. Any build up of sludge can restrict the oil feed to the tappets, camshaft etc. I change ours every 10,000 miles or less.

Having the same problem on 206cc 2.0lt 39,000 on clock 02 plate full history,
Yesterday had passenger airbag fault so turned engine off, de iced my car and restarted no more warnings, but today going to work I had a catalic convertor fault message car didnt have any guts in it so was going to turn around and go home, turned car off, started again after couple of mins and all fine warning came on but car drove fine, same happened on way home from work car was fine to drive but had warning,
I have read a few forums but no real answers yet, I did have my back box replaced a week ago, would this have anything to do with it? is the terrible weather conditions we are having contributing to these faults,Was low on petrol and filled up at tescos, would redex sort out the crap that I could have in the tank? Car is due for a mot next week so I can have this job done also but would like some insite to what it could be first.
Thanks Sarah

I try to steer clear of supermarket petrol. Generally use Shell, BP, Texaco or Total.
I was discussing this at a local garage only last week. They see lots of cars where engine management light is on when supermarket fuel is used. Generally goes out after fill ups with decent stuff.

when are all you peugeot 206 owners gonna wake up and stop paying out for endless repairs on your cars. THE PEUGEOT 206 RANGE OF CARS REGARDLESS OF AGE OR MODEL HAVE A MAJOR FAULT,replaicng the tappets, spark plugs, coil packs, connectors.upgrade of software, ect, ect are just a waste of your time and money. once that anti pollution warning shows up it wont be long before you experience the engine cut out fault.
I drive a peugeot 206cc allure 05 reg it was 1yr old when I got it and I had no problems until last summer after the anti pollution showed up on the screen, then it started cutting out in traffic this was followed by the imobiliser fault, the car wouldnt start at all for 5 days,
then came the will it start wont it start and finally on the 15th Dec whilst driving at speed my
engine cut out I couldnt steer and my brakes went hard, how I kept control of that car i dont know. my beloved car is now parked up outside my house and thats where it gonna stay.
I want you all to look at these websites... peugeot 206 death trap, the peugeot 206 fatal fault and accidents involving peugeot 206. once youve looked at these lets all put our heads together and find a way to get as much media coverage as we can because peugeot wont listen to us.

I must admit, I can really relate to Jo's frustration. I have a 1.6 petrol and have had a fair few problems, and just recently I have had the dreaded catalytic warning flash up, along with a noisy, lumpy ride and lack of power. I'm hoping it's just the lambda sensor, which would be something I could fix for a reasonable price.

Hi. Great site. Just registered but been browsing since buying a 206 CC Allure 2.0 a couple of months ago. 04 plate, 25,000 miles.
When I viewed it the second time before buying, the 'anti-pollution' message came on. The private dealer I bought it from explained it away by the fact his wife had run out of petrol in it. It was running on vapour when I test drove it and, true enough, when we went to a garage and put a tenner's worth in it, the warning went off and I've had no problems / re-occurences since buying it. I know you might question my buying it after the warning message, but a) I know nothing about cars, b) I was gagging to get a CC and had been looking for weeks, and c) at £4,900 and one lady owner it seemed like a bargain...
Is it plausible that the warning was simply due to the low fuel issue and I'll have no further problems, or have I got some big bills to look forward to? I've just read this thread from start to finish and it's got me worried
.
Any other advice on actions I could take to avoid any problems on this issue would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Richard

Hi All
Just a quick query with regard to the "anti pollution" fault. I see the topic has been running for a good length of time now and just wondered if a conclusion had been found as to what are the best steps to take with this issue?
My wife's car has just started getting it and we've already had one trip to the garage for a diagnostic check which seemed to point at a fuel injector issue but no problems were found even though it cost £90!!! We haven't experienced any loss of power with the engine and this fault has occured only recently whilst the weather has been warm so I presume its not down to the cold start causing the sensors to pick up unburn't fuel as some of the other posts have mentioned? Any advice would be much appreciated as my wife does love the car - its a 02 Reg 2 litre petrol 206 CC.
Many Thanks
