had a look at a wind guard the other day and gave it a test - still nto sure if its worth spending £200 or thereabouts on it though. One big question is that it does seem very easy to steal. Anyone came across a solution to making it a little more secure ? If I do get one I dont want to be popping it on and off all the time.

I do leave my windstop in place with the top down and have been a little concerned about it being nicked, I tend to leave the windows up so it becomes rather more difficult for anyone to reach in, put the chairs forward (mine are always back against the windstop) and remove the windstop. Oh - and they'd have to be a fellow cc'er to have any use for it (or to understand how to remove it !) I would go for it, makes top-down motoring infinately more bearable on sunny-but-cool days, keeps the missus' perfectly coiffed bouffant in place too

I agree..

If the seats are pushed right back against the windstop then to nick it someone has to

1. Push in the 2 pegs at the side (this means going round either side of the car)
2. Push the seats forward (by pushing the lever - a bit of a lean into the car - again both sides
3. They then have the windstop

I dont think, taking into account the number of people that would actally want one, anyone will nick it.

hmm guess so, the real reason I asked was cause I'm thinking about doing something very nasty to it. reinforcing the bit that goes over the seats and then hanging 2 10inch subs in 'stealth mode' from it.

I guess, if you have the alarm installed, then it would be set off as they have to move the seats (or even reach into the car)....
Am I right?

the standard alarm wont protect the inside of the car with the roof down. As i understand it, its an ultrasonic alarm (why not microwave!?!?!) and the interior sensors are automatically switched off when roof is down. But it would take some kind of giant to be able to reach over a 'closed' window and move the seat (or am i just really short?)

hey jim_evers

is that true about the alarm? Is the interior protection really being switched off with the roof down??? That sounds so idiot! It should be the other way round!!!!
Can anyone confirm this and even more, tell me what the reason is?

My alarm says "volumetric interior protection through hyperfrequency". Is that the sames as an ultrasonic protection?

Thanks for your replies

Yes, and it answers your question. The alarm will be unable to distinguish between somebody jumping into your car and somebody walking past your car.

It will also be unable to distinguish between somebody jumping into your car and a gust of wind.

I suspect it has something to do with cost, microwave sensors make so much more sense on any car, as you can set the perimeter and the wind wont set them off. They aren't much more expensive than ultrasonic but if they fitted ultrasonic to the standard 206 they might as well save some pennys and just put it straight in the CC, out of the existing parts bin.

regarding the alarm .. I'm think it does work when the roof is down ... I was out yesterday roof down and parked up. came back to the car, put my sportsbag in the back and the alarm went off.

paul,

that's because you opened the boot with the alarm on.

not being used to a car with an alarm for a little while to begin with i kept opening the boot and it meant the alarm went off.

you need to deactivate the alarm by unlocking the car with the plip before opening the boot.

Is there a difference between deadlocking the car and just central locking the car when the roof is down?

Haven't tried it, but my understanding is that dead-locking isolates the cetral locking mechanism.
Cheers
