Hi guys, I have noticed lately when starting up the car there is like a footpump noise coming from the engine, near where all the puleys, cambelt is
Cant exactly see what it could be but then I am a bit of a novice when it comes to cars etc.
The noise does seem to go after giving it a short-medium run (30 min)... unless it is still going but quieter possibly. The noise as I said is like the old school footpump in your hands..
Probably a squeaking auxiliary belt. Take a look at the condition of it. If it is cracking or looks really worn you could replace it, but if it is not too bad I'd leave it until it is time to do the cambelt and get both done at the same time.
If it is the cambelt that is making the noise it could be the tensioner and/or idler pulley, or the water pump. If so it might be worth bringing forward that cambelt and water pump renewal. It would be real expensive if that went.

There also seems to be a very annoying (not serious I know lol) vibration coming from the engine cover (huge black plastic cover)... upon opening the bonnet and pressing down on it the noise goes but upon releasing the slight pressure I am applying the vibration returns.
I visited peugeot dealer yesterday who stated that they were sure the cover didnt come with any clips or bolts to replace the old ones and that it came as one unit with some sort of lunge/clip already attached to the cover. Therefore they quoted me £160ish for a replacement
Anyone able to assist with this? as I know its not a major, serious issue... but it is slowly chipping away at me lol
Diesels tend to vibrate a lot more than petrols on tickover. You could always leave the plastic cover off, but I suspect that would allow more noise out.
The more they get taken off and on the more play in the fixing points.
£160 seems a lot of money...

Yeah managed to remove the cover and it is fixed on with 2 fixing points on the left hand side with the right hand side having no fixing points and therefore vibrating. I think your prob right about the number of times it may have been removed causing it to be less stable.
I tried the engine without the cover and then with the cover on, very slight difference in noise, but only ever so slightly.
Is there any potential issue with leaving the cover of mate?
Dust, dirt and damp - and aesthetics. But I suspect that it is not pristine under it now.
Personally I'd keep a look out at the local scrappy for a replacement in better condition. Probably pick one up for a tenner or less.
A search on ebay reveals some engine covers.
