Hi all
I have a 2004 1.6petrol cc
last month the dealer had to replace the engine as they said water got into the air inlet and sucked it into the engine causing severe damage
500 miles later with my new engine , it wasnt runnign very well so as a precaution i took it back for them to check , few hours later they foned to say that the engine had the saem problem as before , water getting in etc causing severe damage
I was shocked as I have delibratly been avoiding puddles and floods
so i walked down to the dealer went in and said i,m mystified and cant understand etc how the water got in
thewy showed me fotos of the airfilter etc and the large tubes and sure enough traces of water
I then said to the dealer i wanted to take the car away as i,m in shock etc , they asked me to wait ten mins and the car would be brought around to me
I got the car home and unscrewed the air filter housing anmd sure enough the air filter was soaking so i removed it and looked down and the water level was right up to the filter , so i seperated the pipe and took out a big black box which was also filled with water
I<m very suspicious as it looks as if sopmeone has emptied water into it as in my opinion if water was in and today being dry weather surely the water level wudnt have been as high in the car
could anyone advise or have an opinion on this please
George

It is common. People change the air filter and don't replace the housing properly. Consequently water gets in when it rains.
If the people who replaced your engine knew that water had got in before, why didn't they solve that problem at the same time?
