Hi All.
I have a 2002 52 reg 1997cc cabriolet which I bought recently.
Sometimes when I am driving I notice that the needle on the speedometer is on zero. It comes back to life by itself after a while but are there any solutions I can do or is it expensive if taken to a garage for repair? Please advise.

Re: Temperamental speedometer
Depends whether yours has speedo drive in gearbox or is sensed by wheel sensor. Have you got intermittent ABS warnings as well? If not, could be speedo drive in gearbox or new speedo head. Could also be wiring fault such as connectors. start by cleaning up speedo drive connector plug (if it has one)at rear of gearbox near driveshaft

Re: Temperamental speedometer
My local Peugeot garage said they had a quick look into it when doing a different repair. They think the whole unit on the dashboard needs to be replaced and it will cost £400 plus vat. This is mainly for the part not labour. They phoned the second hand car dealer on my behalf from where I got my car 20 days ago. They were hoping that he would agree to them doing the work and he would pay them under my warranty. I knew he wouldn't say yes but anyway they told me that he said I will have to phone him myself and he will fix it. Hmmm. What does everyone think he will do? Just pretend to have fixed it? I'm sure he won't buy a new unit. Maybe he will just look for loose connections. The problem is that he might not notice the problem as it only drops to zero 10% of the time spent driving and therefore unless he drives it for 10 miles he might not know if he has fixed it either.

Re: Temperamental speedometer
The fact is that without a fully operational speedometer the car is illegal. He has to put it right otherwise you could report him to trading standards. I'm sure he'd prefer to do it amicably. You'll just have to be persuasively polite.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Temperamental speedometer
instead making new thread thought post here, for second time in 2 weeks driving along and my speedo plummeted to 0mph then after 30 seconds went straight back to 60 mph the speed i was doing
no changes in engines revs or anything to show a problem, no lights on dash either, possibly battery problem?
