Whats the best alarm system to use on the cc. I was looking at the Clifford systems. Has anyone out there got one? I have an arguement with a friend who says if thieves want to steal your car then they will, no matter what alarm you have. I was considering buying a removable steering wheel but then i have no air bag. Any ideas?

what do you want to protect it from?
theft? then the immobilizer will do the work. you can't steal the cc without the original keys.
burglary? then the alarm won't work. but if the thief has two cars to choose from, he will probably choose the one without alarm. best thing is you can park the car with the roof down.
(yes i have an alarm)

Your friend is right - if a thief sets his sights on a particular car, he will steal it. Some thieves just tow it away, despite all protective measures.
However, most thieves are not this determined. The harder and more trouble you make it for a thief to steal your car, the less likely it will be stolen, and the longer it will take to steal if he tries(giving more chance he will be disturbed / caught).
Therefore any deterrent you have on your car reduces your chance of it being stolen. These include alarms, immobilisers, removable steering wheels, steering locks, etc. The thief might not think it is worth the trouble, or may choose another car. The same goes for having "tempting" items visible in the car through the window, eg. mobile phones or CDs. HIDE THEM!
So with all this in mind, just go with what you're comfortable with, and most importantly get comprehensive insurance.
(This is advice given to me by police.)

I'd recommend a DiskLock about £80 in Halfords.Backs up the Peugeot Alarm. Like any system there are no guarantees thats its 100% secure but as most thefts are carried out on an opportunity basis the thief if given the choice between a car with a disklock and one without I'm pretty certain they would go for the easier less hassle option!.

who cares if your CC gets nicked ???
hopefully it happens in the 1st year so your insurance company buys you another new one but at the end of the day it's one of the reasons why we have insurance.

Often the car is found before the insurance company pays out, and the damage sustained can leave you with a car thats fixable ie. not written off - but not the same quality as you started with.
Greg, whats this guaranteed asset protection you signesd up for? If its the German equivalent of no claims protection (ie. you pay a little more but can claim some three times against your insurance without it effecting your premiums) then I would say it is always worth having especially if you live or work in a high crime area.
Robbie.

If it's what I think it is, you pay a one-off premium and if your car's a write-off in the first 3 years (I think) they pay you the FULL original value of the car instead of the current market rate.

its what alexls said .....
i was offered it by my dealer, can't remember the price - i think £250 approx for the 3yr cover.
i didn't take it on the 1st CC, might consider it for the 2nd one depending on how long i plan to keep the car
