hello,
new owner here so hi all to all, prob not the ebst start for me and my peugeot
brought my lovely pug 206 cc at the weekend, private sale so cant really take it back.
got few problems with it that never really noticed on the terst drive, prob too excited lol
firstly its Pug 206 CC SE 2001 67k
PROBLEMS:
1) sometimes turning on the climate control it makes a whining sound/squealing, but only sometimes, sounds like the fan
2) when changing gears theres a knock/bang which sounds like its coming from the rear to middle of the car, but if i change gear really really slowly theres no knock/bang. only happens going from 1st -4th gear - possibly the exhaust not secured properly? it has an aftermarket sports one on
3) steering seems quite stiff is it normal? last car was MG ZS with silky responsive steering
any help is welcome

Re: 206CC PROBLEMS NEW OWNER
Welcome to the forum.
#1 May be due to alternator belt slippage as extra load on it when using A/C. It could be the fan, but check belt 1st.
#2 Most likely a broken exhaust hanger. They are only rubber and perish & break as they age.
#3 No. not normal. Turn the steering 1 turn each way with engine running, then try again with engine off. You should notice the difference. If no difference, system has failed. If there is a difference but you think it is still too stiff then check tyre pressures are correct, and check fluid level OK in power steering.

Re: 206CC PROBLEMS NEW OWNER
Best way (only way) is to fill right up, zero trip, drive till you have used 1/2 tank or so, then fill right up again.
You can then see the actual litres used V miles travelled
BTW I make it 25.5mpg

Re: 206CC PROBLEMS NEW OWNER
That mpg could well be correct for a 2 litre in winter, especially if your tyre pressures are low.
How long ago was the car serviced, and by whom?
Why would you change up from 1st gear straight to 4th?

Re: 206CC PROBLEMS NEW OWNER
If the oil is clean and golden it just shows that the oil has been changed recently. If it had been black you'd have known the recent service was suspect.
No, nothing against Premier Motors. One of my daughters was interested in a car they had for sale not so long ago, she didn't proceed with it though.

Re: 206CC PROBLEMS NEW OWNER
In the instrument binnacle (under the speedo) is a knob. Press it to cycle between total mileage and trip. When trip is displayed, press and hold until it zeros.
The trip in the centre binnacle above the radio is reset by pressing and holding the button in the end of the multifunction stalk (top stalk on the right)

Re: 206CC PROBLEMS NEW OWNER
i know about the one on the speedo clocks to reset the latest miles
the one on the (wipes) stalk the button seems a bit stiff and well doesnt really seem to move?
is that the right one? if so its booked in next week at the auto electricans will see if that actually works
the one above the dash if i press the buttons on that all it is does cycle between time and date etc
surely my Y reg 2001 206 cc will have the trip computer on the wiper stalk?
also how can i find out if my car has had all its recalls done?
