dip stick

OK, im open to jokes,but Ive just tried to check the engine oil level. //problem//,the dip stick doesnt have higher or lower level markers, its just an enlarged ball end , no markers at all. any clues as to where i fill it to. its a 1.4 diesel 2003 model. laugh at me if this seems daft, here you are look,im laughing at myself :lol: help much appreciated. :thumbs:

If you don't have a min & max line, then it is usually shown as two holes, (one for max, one for min) or a hatched area which spans the upper and lower limit.
If this doesn't answer the question, can you post a pic of it so we can see what you mean?

my mums 306 had a dip stick with the palstic end.
when she snaped the plastic she ended up with just a ball on the end.

You could always find someone with an engine the same as yours, compare your dipstick with the marks on theirs and hacksaw a couple of notches in the steel on yours in the correct place.
