wont start
hello all first time on here,great site like the advice given (user friendly)first cwifes car pug 206 1.4i automatic on a 03 plate,she had recently blew the engine,blew the oil filter arm right off holed the sump cracked everything under neath,and that was at a box junction so not going fast thank god anyway got a s/hand engine same code and year (rear end shunt) took out old put in new, well friends at local garage helped with the removal lol fitted all parts from the old to the new like starter alt power st.a/c.and new oil level sender unit,connected all wires all hoses ,all bolts connected up the battery and nothing,lights pulsed then stayed on car says eco mode so no radio wipers heater tct c/l works ok.tried this battery d/reco.thing(never knew that there was a way to do that,got lost half way through tried it all again got the lights to flash on the dash then bloody lights pulse and stay on.the lights pulse about 10 times and stay on .anybody out there help me pleae before i go balistic cos ive never seen this before in me 60 years give me an old engine any day (preferably on a boat lol) yours len c/o local nut house thankyou all

Hi Lenny and welcome.
My 1st thoughts are that you have a flat battery as that will give you all the above symptoms. Assuming battery is OK, recheck all the connections especially the earth connections.
I take it you have used the original ecu and not anything from the donor car?

yes have just replaced the engine same g/box etc same ecu just the block will recheck all earth connections,will try another battery although its own one was ok even tried to jump start it still nothing thanks

now went and checked the earth straps noticed that the one from battery was attached to the wing behind battery box,reconected the stap to engine went to hook up bsattery and it started to bubble up wow something is shorting out but what i diconnected the starter(thinking that pulls some power but same thing checked all else that i could see,if i leave off the strap all is ok no sparking issues but beff up the starp and big short like when you cross terminals any ideas where i should start going mental now thanks len

Carefully check you haven't pinched a wire somewhere. check around engine, gearbox and starter joints. Also make sure you have connected cables properly and not got a pos cable bolted to chassis /engine. Check starter connections.

my dear friend capncol you were spot on,because the friends /mechanics had done some of the work i was unaware of what was done it turns out in thier haste someone had bolted the live alternator wire to the block under the manifold,so when checking everything i hadnt noticed this,it was discovered by accident (ater quite a few sweary words an loads of coffee me throwing toys out of the pram etc anyway the upshot is its going great now the wife happy i got brownie points then lost them again by sugesting she should sell the beast as it might get a lot more costly to run,thankchrist the bloody ecu thing is not fried so she can listen to barry manifold again sigh a well back to me boat and many many thanks to all in this great wee club keep up the good work as we say up here ca awa but ca canny yours len
