Sorry its a late reply and thanks for the welcome. Its a 206CC and its in a rare grey i am told with light grey leather interior, just turned 100k on the clock.
First was headlight bulb gone, not to much hassle to replace, but while i was changing it i noticed inner mud guard on wheel arch missing and headlight back cover missing. Also grill and trim has damage on all fixings but was / is hidden when opening the bonnet, these issues led me to have it independantly checked over from the dealer told us that the car had been in a bump and had been repaired slight front end damage.
No record on HPI.
Main area concern though is "unblock diesel filter" on display, we were told just to run it for 20 mins at over 50mph and this would cure it.. Not cured so off to dealer to have a look, we had to have a relay replaced as this was causing a ECU code and then we had to try to regenerate it again, again this did not work, dealer wanted more money for investigation duly agreed but car would not accept a forced regeneration, new filter required at over £500 with all labour for
relay etc comes out at £750.
Luckily for us the man / dealer we got it from has been brilliant and has agreed to most of the costs £650, would have given it him back but my wife loves it and he has been very fair.
Car is due back wednesday hopefully all done.

One of the problems with modern diesels. At least the trader seems to be being fair with you.
I'd hate to be a dealer these days, an 8 year old car with 100,000 miles on the clock, and the warranty liability can take away all of your profit and sometimes more. It must be difficult when they take cars in part exchange not knowing all the faults which are influencing the owner to get rid.
Fortunately my 2008 Golf Estate does not have a DPF.
