Col,
Sound's like you've picked up some nastyness.
You may have some spyware on your systm or just picked up some nasty cookies. Try Adaware from lavasoft - freeware. This will show you what nastness you've got.

You probably got a third party ad program running on your pc which serves you popups whenever you access the web. You can check to see what is running on your box currently by checking task manager.
Also check your startup directory and investigate any programs that are running as soon as you boot up.

Thanks Obi, had a funny looking thing in the start up menu, so have deleted it and hopefully it will sort that out

Col,
Deleting things in the startup won't make them go away (not permanently at least.) I could write paragraphs on Spyware and the like but this is not the forum for that.
Use a spyware killer as I indicated in my earlier post. It's the only way to make sure.

It also might have come from a site you left to come to this one... Some sites open new windows when you leave theirs.

Thanks thebigkung, I've downloaded that spyware killer program you suggested as I get the odd pop up now an again.
Robbie.
