Temp Gauge/ Stop Light

Post by madcaine9 »

Hi this is my first post on the forum so hopefully this is in the right place. I have 206cc 2003 1.6v and just recently the temp gauge is going right up to 90 degrees and the stop light is coming on. This last for only about 20 seconds and then it goes back down to normal and the stop light goes out. Any suggestions why this might be happening would be gratefully received

Does the fan come on same time as when light comes on?

Faulty fan switch or sticky thermostat could cause this.

Only if you don't do anything about it. A thermostat only costs about a tenner and a garage may charge you another £20 to change it. But don't put off getting the job done or you could cook your engine - then things start getting VERY expensive.

Having very similar to this only the guage doesnt go down and stop light stays on...

Fan starts with engine and stays on, guage shoots up, stop light on dash. Changed thermostat was about a tenner, same issues still. Fault reader says engine coolant is minus 40?! Resetting code it fixes for 2 seconds then does the same.

Checked fuses and relays all seem fine, but this fan switch i havent done yet - is it the one actually on the rad at front or somewhere else please? Changed temp sensor too, again same issues.. Reset ecu by shorting, left battery off overnight too but issues remain. Looking at trying used ecu maybe, but to be honest run out of solutions :(

bertone19, I'd be wondering about the water pump on your car. How old is your car, how many miles has it done, and have the timing belt, pulleys and water pump been renewed yet?
