i bought a 206cc 1.6 recently and it had a new starter motor fitted before i bought it and it seems dead all you can hear is the solonoid clicking , possibly a duff starter motor ? ive tried jumping it off another car and no luck .
the battery sems to hold a charge and the voltage is ok
how much of a pig is it to take it off ?

In answer to your Q, it's a pig. Check your earth and battery connections first before you go diving in changing the starter.

It's only a couple of mounting bolts and a couple of electrical terminal ones.
There's a fair amount of room round the back of the engine to get to it, so all in all it's not too bad (but them I am used to working in even smaller spaces).
But make sure you put something over the wing to protect it from your belt buckle.
And make sure you "put the car to sleep" properly before attempting removal.
There are posts on here on the correct sequence for battery disconnection/removal and installation - failure to follow them can screw up your BSI/ECU and leave you with a big bill.
If it does turn out that the starter motor is FUBARed, get the part number off it, because I have one for sale from a CC I've recently broken.
