... yesterday.
Picking up two new ones tomorrow and will fit at the weekend ... hopefully.
I'll let you all know how it goes, but it looks pretty straightforward.
I guess if they were the originals, and I don't doubt that they are given the state of the brakes when we bought it, 12 years isn't bad.

Re: Brake Cable snapped
Both replaced. Took about 2 hours to do both. Hardest part was getting the end of the cable outer sleeve out of the hole in the caliper ... required some gentle persuasion with a small chisel and hammer ... both wheels have to come off to get a clean strike on these. The cable guides at the front of the calipers also needed to be opened up slightly to get the old cable out and new one in .. then squeezed back up gently with grips.
One small section of exhaust shield needed to be removed to get at the forward cable outer guides and clips behind the handbrake but luckily both bolts came out without any fuss .. coated with copper grease when they went back.
Quick hint: tie thin string or cord to the ends of the old cables before you pull them out and you can use this to draw them back through the holes and into the central console.
Then a quick oil change, including filter, and Kermit is back in the road ...
Will re-adjust the handbrake in a week or two.
Just need the two metal clips that hold the cables into the plastic guides under the fuel tank .. they were rusted away to nothing .. !!! If I could get onto Servicebox I'd be happy as I could then just hunt for the parts or ring my local dealers.
