Acceleration

Post by naz1234 »

Hi, my Peugeot 206 1.4 Diesel struggles to do more than 50mph on the motorway, when going up hill on an incline. It is fine when the road is on a straight, My engine does not over heat or anything like that.

Any suggestions to what it could be?

Check that the catalytic converter core hasn't collapsed ... that happened to ours and it really struggled to get to any speed on any gentle incline .. even our driveway was a problem!

The core should fill the liner in the first part of the exhaust ... when it collapses it becomes ball shaped and eventually blocks off the outlet to the exhaust pipe. If it bounces around it may land a different way up allowing some flow.

I had the same issue as Gazza, that took some fault finding...

If as Capncol says it is the MAF sensor, then I know on some models it's possible to resurrect them by spraying them with brake cleaning spray. It cleans off residue that they can pick up from smoggy atmospheres. Don't use WD40 though - that's asking for trouble!

Not helped by a second issue with the glow-plug circuit that was also throwing up errors ...

Nope, can;t match you there Gazza, but I did have an ill fitting coil pack also that seemed to cause no end of problems and created a flat spot at 2100rpm which was very irritating.
