electrical woes

Post by jasonrafferty »

Hello folks.
I have a strange problem with my 1.4 auto 206 .. i wonder if anyone can help?
I recently had my car 'serviced' with a well known tyre centre .. trying to save a few bob.
Anyway when i went to pick it up they had overfilled the oil so i made them drop the oil and check the plugs. They said all was now ok but the car wouldn't start.
On checking the expansion bottle it looked like there was oil in the water - i got it to my local garage who stated i needed the cylinder head skimmed and the gasket changed.
I paid for this but it still wouldn't start and it turned out the coil pack was faulty so this was replaced and all was well.
Since then however the speedo 1 time in 4 or 5 when starting the car hits the lower end stops - i.e it goes to less than 0 quite violently before settling down and working properly. The airbag light is now on (and sometimes the passenger bag lights as well) and the car isn't happy to start when warm. It will start hot or cold with no problems.
I'm not sure if these are all related or not :(
Weirdly the other day when the ignition was on and the needles were on the lower end stops (further down than they should be) i had the internal fuse box cover off and nudged the general area with my knee and the needle returned to the correct position.
I'm pretty sure there are intermittent issues in that area but don't really know where to start looking.
Can anyone give me a starting point please .. I have read the warnings re disconnecting the battery etc.
Thanks

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I'm sorry but I'm not entirely sure what you mean by plex - the car is a 2005 if that helps?
Jason.

It's a plex car then. These suffer with weird electrical faults when the battery is on the way out. Is it the original?
If you have had the head gskt done, then the battery was more than likely removed, in which case the proper procedure may not have been followed. Assuming the battery isn't the problem, you could try a BSI reset (details at the top of the electrical thread)
Cheers Col.
