Air con crimping tool/ bore tool

My air con has to be replaced and my garage can't seem to find the correct tool to crimp the pipes on connecting everything. The garage says if the tool isn't used then it will wreck the pipes and the air con will leak! Does anyone know the proper name for this tool or where to get it? The dealer I brought the car off in August is paying for the repair so I would like to get it done while he's still happy to pay!

They need to talk to a company that makes a/c piping ... that's their problem .. it shouldn't be yours ...

I agree it's their problem technically but I want the repair done quickly so I am willing to put in a bit of effort of my own to help out - garage have done me another repair for a really good price.

This was from one google search ... the pipes have to be pressure tested as well. Just tell them to replace any damaged pipes. They are trying to do the job on the cheap ... you'll end up paying out again when their bodge fails.

Oh dear gazza82 that's expensive! Apparently the pipes are being replaced but the tool is needed to connect a part back in the car - I am sure you have already worked out that I am not mechanically minded:)

Brought the car from private dealer in Leicester. He is paying for the air con repair but the garage he uses don't have the special tool and are trying to get one.

it's an example of the cost of specialist tools. the garage shouldn't need one. they can get the pipes and houses already made up and bolt them into place just as Peugeot did. The garage looks to be trying to cut corners which isn't necessary. A/C is a specialist area. You need extra training to work on it, certification and special equipment to empty and recharge the system properly. That all costs money so just get the dealer to get the other work done then he can pay for the a/c to be repaired properly not bodged.

Thanks both. I think the garage and dealer are trying to not do the work. They keep saying that I don't need the air con in the winter....and in summer the roof will be off.....
Am going to try Jackson's, independent Peugeot Garage, Leicester, and ask them for a price and see if they can do the job.

Don't forget St Peter's Autos in Oadby too. They are Peugeot specialists and I've always found them to be reasonable. They serviced my air-con for me last time.

If the air-con isn't working in winter you'll find it won't demist as well as it should.

Don't take any bull,you have rights backed by law!!

If the first garage has started the job they need to finish it or pay someone to if they can't. If they weren't equipped or skilled in the frst place they should not have started. Get Trading Standards involved BEFORE you spend anymore money.

If you take it away half finished, I'm sure dealer and garage can claim they have done everything they need to.

The second garage may not actually touch it as it's already been started either.
