Advent calendar of problems.....

Post by InkyAl »

It seems at the moment that every day there is a new problem with my car :(

Short history so you can all see whats going on - bear in mind I am not very mechanically minded so technical stuff may be a bit poorly explained!

Air conditioning not working - fault still awaiting repair by the dealer I purchased it off.

Battery dodgy so replaced - and no I didn't do it the right way.

Alternator replaced as it wasn't the battery!

Roof not working but am removing deeply suspect microswitch this weekend with hope of a resolution (Thanks to Neil/Enright)

Thought the battery not being connected/disconnected properly might be the problem with the roof so did the BSI reset as described on here. Although I only left the battery off for the prescribed time (15 seconds?) and other people on here have said they have left the battery off for hours/all night??

So now I have the advent calendar of problems:

Randomly the brake warning message/abs fault comes on but if i turn off the engine and then start it again the light goes. It never appears suddenly while driving it's only on start up.
This has happened twice in the last couple of weeks.

The same has also happened with the passenger airbag warning which says it is deactivated.

A couple of times when I start the car the computer has lost the date and time -but again only randomly a couple of times.

Occasionally when I unlock the car the passenger side lock does not open.

When using the indicator to turn left the (non original) radio/cd cuts out but has only happened a couple of random times and not every time I indicate. I always have music on!!

Car sounds a bit rough on starting but runs ok.

All other signals, lights etc working.

HELP ME!!!! I love driving the car but it is beginning to lose its shine for me now

1) was it a new battery? random faults often occur if the battery is not fully charged or starting to fail

2) was it the correct height (190mm)? The CC has a taller battery ... if the lower 175mm one, the connections are pushing on the battery box and can be forced up and off.

Sounds almost like you have an intermittent battery connection problem ... also follow the earth (-ve) cable back from the battery to the gearbox and body where it earths. It could be frayed/breaking.

It was a brand new battery yes.

Purchased online as being the right one for the Peugeot 206cc but I will give it a measure and see.

I wondered if it was the battery connections - although I have limited knowledge of cars. I (my partner) :)will check the cable at the weekend when I (he) does the roof microswitch work.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think gazza82 is right. Should be like this, see dimensions in advert

My money is on you having the one for the 206 hatchback which is only 175mm tall. That will be placing strain on the terminal connections and causing the symptoms you describe.

One option is to pack under the battery ... but if it's new it should really be replaced with the correct fitment. The CC needs a slightly better battery anyway given all the work it does with the roof, a/c, etc ...

Our CC battery is packed (by the AA) but as I don't know it's age will replace it with a 190mm one when battery throws its toys out of the pram ...

It is the correct battery but upon examining it the negative connector had come loose. Not sure why. Anyway have tightened it and will see how it goes. Thanks for the help people. :big-grin:
