Re: Starter Motor
Hi Clair and welcome.
When you say
Depending on your answer to the above, it does sound as if you had flattened the battery while it was outside your grandmothers house.Do you know how old the battery is?
The electric windows and lights take nowhere near the power that the starter takes, so that is normal that they would work. It's only when the battery goes completely flat that the lights don't work (they just get dimmer & dimmer)
When you say
Do you mean the ignition switch would stick in the *start* position, or was there a clicking noise coming from the engine starter motor?when i started the car it would stay clicked all the way and i had to turn it back slightly each time

Re: Starter Motor
I'm with Col on this one. It sounds like the battery flattened enough to not have the power to start the car. If its an older battery, a new one will sort that out.
It also sounds like the return spring on the ignition switch may have failed and this is why you need to click the key back from the 'start' position to the 'run' position. the only cure for that would be a new ignition switch. The switch is usually not part of the key barrel, so you shouldn't need to change keys or anything, and a competent garage will be able to replace the switch for you.
Hope that helps.
