Spare keys

A friend of mine just had the bad experience of his alarm going off when the battery on his fob had died and it made me suddenly aware of the fact that I only got one key with my CC (From JamJar) and I've no idea what kind of battery it take s (other than "small").

Do you just get batteries/additional keys from the dealer? I could take in the credit card key thing and ask for another key next time my car gets recalled...

I picked up my CC on Saturday and was given two keys and the credit card thing - I was under the impression that if I needed a new key cut I would have to take both keys and the card in to the dealer at the sametime as it would involve reprogramming the chip in the old keys to match the new key! - Hope that makes sense!.

In short if you take your key and the credit card in they will reprogramme the old one to match the new.

i was told the same as neil. I cant remember for sure but didnt they need the car too when they reprograme the keys??? I also got two keys.. one with remote control and one without.... the cars comes without alarm here i Norway.

Same here 2 keys both with alarm/deadlock buttons + credit card thingy with a serial number.

as with all new cars you should get at least 3 keys...best check with jam jar. YOur key could be lying in someones office!!!

i have owned 6 new peugeots since 1994 and all have only had 2 keys, not 3. as far as cars with remote central locking go (4) the CC is the first to have 2 remote keys, normally 1 is remote and 1 is standard.

Also don't do what my husband did recently. He opened the car for me with his remote key then I drove it with my remote key and when I came to lock it up it wouldn't work. We pratted around for a wee while and eventually it worked so in future we will only use the same key for unlocking, driving and locking again on each occasion.

I took delivery from Jamjar in October, I received two keys. I would go back to them, they forgot to stamp my service book but when I went back to them )thanks to the advice on this site) they stamped it for me.

That second remote key might cost you mate, I was quoted over Â£120 for a spare for the ex 106gti.

Saying that they were probably having a 'peugeot laugh' as usual.

I think you better get onto Jamjar and get that second key. Otherwise get them to pay for a new set as someone out there has your keys! scarey thought! :eek:

hmm, In Sweden we get a plastic and two keys but only one of those has remote for the central lock, I ask my dealer what the plasic with code was good to and what he told me was that the code was to reprogram the data box and the imobilizer and I suppose It's include to add new keys to the system so the inbuilt chip in the key being
accepted of the imobilizer.

burge, after reading your posting about having to use the same key I mentioned it to the dealer when we picked our car up, of course he sort of gave us a mocking smile. This however was shortly before he did almost exactly what you and your husband had done!! It was great turning round and saying "Oh look that must be what they did!"

I remember a posting from Simon about a year ago on the old forum about the batteries in keys going flat.

Did you say that if this happens that Peugoet rip us off and charge to reprogramme the keys. I think you also mentioned that it is only a couple of quid to get a new battery fitted to the key every 12 months.

Correct me if I am wrong but seemed like it might be worth repeating it to the new owners.
