Roof making all the right noises, but no movement *FIXED*

Post by tashawxm2014 »

ok so here goes the story:
i put my roof down yesterday, whilst on a journey i went into the boot to get the lil ones booster seat from the boot (roof was down). continued my journey went to close the roof and i had the dreaded BEEP BEEP BEEP. checked the boot shelf was extended but it had come off on 1 side hooked it back on, and still the dreaded beeeeeep beeeeep beeeeep.

Out of panic we manually put the roof up due to it being late, iv come out to look at the car this morning and all it was was the micro switch on the boot shelf, the metal press down thing had snapped, i have now fixed this. so i now get the motor sound finally working in the boot but the roof doesnt move. nor does the boot lid move (sounds likes it wants to)

i have reset the white U pins , several times in both holes and still no movement from the roof, what could be causing the problem? at the moment im just getting constant beeping noises in the car :(

You need to reset the roof so that it knows where it is.

Have you retightened the allen bolt in the pump, you would have had to release it to allow you to move the roof manually.

Just motor noise, but no clicks to say things like boot latches are moving?

I had similar when I messed my roof up, and it turned out to the be white U clips in the boot being in the wrong position.

Also check the oil level in the pump reservoir.

Yes there are a few clicks right before the beeps kick in, as for the white U clips, when i put them in the auto position i noticed only 1 of the holes that they slot into has a clear rubber seal, the other side doesn't? Also when my bro in law manually put the roof up he screwed out the hydraulic valve completely out instead of just a quater turn to the left? Would these have anything to do with it?

The clicks would sound like the boot lid locks are at least trying to disengage, I'm wondering if the U clips are fully pushed home, or that the hydraulic release is not fully closed.

I'm guessing now, and I'm sure you've checked these already

Do you have to tighten the hydraulic valve super tight? Yes checked the U clips their pushed in as far as i can get them in (their just about popping out the other hole) also checked hydraulic reservoir that's full to the + line

Very welcome Tasha.

For completeness of info in this thread it should be noted that the hydraulic release needs to be tightly done up. If you think about it, they system works on pressure and if the release is open, even a little, that pressure cant be maintained by the pump.

Now, where's that sunshine gone? who am I kidding, its not raining. ROOF DOWN!
