Chirping noise

Post by hansen »

Hi Folks.

I have recently bought a pug convertible - and I'm absolutely loving it. The problem I have, though, is that I have a chirping noise coming from the engine. I thought something needed a bit of WD40 or a belt tightening. However, I've since had it said that it may well be the dual mass flywheel that's making the noise.... There is no other fault other than the noise which is just very, very annoying. Could this be an expensive thing to fix if it is this? does it mean a whole new clutch?

DMF is usually a rattling noise. Could be aux belt, cam belt, tensioners, alternator etc: Which end of engine is the noise?
Cheers Col.

Thanks Col. I'm really not sure which end. I've just lifted the bonnet to listen but its hard to localise the area. At a guess I'd say the right hand side as I stand in front of it....

Get someone to press clutch pedal down while you listen and see if the noise changes, or goes. All the belt related stuff is drivers side ( left as you look at engine) DMF / clutch is other end of engine.
What sort of mileage has it done?
Cheers Col.

I think it does get a bit noisier when the clutch goes down... its got 91,000 on the clock.
