Strange noise when pulling off
I have a Peugeot 206 1.6cc HDi Allure convertible which is now making a strange noise when I pull off. If I pull off slowly there is no 'whining' 'rubbing' noise, but it occurs if I pull off slightly faster. Any ideas?

Re: Strange noise when pulling off
Auto? Manual?
Noise from Front? Back? Left? Right? Underneath?

Hi Col
It is a manual and the noise seems to be coming from the front right underneath.
Cheers

Re: Strange noise when pulling off
Check the bottom (crankshaft) pulley, and do it soon.
Failure of the bottom pulley is very common on the HDI engines. Early stages of failure is indicated by a rattling noise from the engine at approx 2000 to 3000 rpm when accelerating hard, as the pulley gets worse the noise will occur at idle as well. In bad cases the pulley will completely break up causing loss of drive to the alternator and pas pump, and in most cases damage to the lower timing cover and then it is possible for the debris from the pulley to go into the cam belt housing causing the belt to jump a few teeth or even cam belt failure with possible valve or cam follower damage.
Most times if caught in the early stages only a pulley is required, but if the lower cam cover is damaged then the cam belt will have to be checked for contamination / damage or just changed as a precaution. If you drive it until it stops you'll end up with a broken cam belt and cam followers so get it seen to sooner rather than later. Always fit genuine parts, I have heard of some after market pulleys having to be replaced again in 6k miles.

Re: Strange noise when pulling off
I will get it checked ASAP.
There is no rattling noise when accelerating hard or at idle, it just seems to happen when I pull off in first gear quicker than normal........confused.con

It is irritating when folk ask for help but we never hear the outcome.

In other threads I have not posted any reply or updates as I have not done a thing to the car. Been too busy with the garden, painting fence and things.GrandadMonkey wrote:It is irritating when folk ask for help but we never hear the outcome.
