Shaking then cutting out

Post by curtiscolvin »

I have a 206 1.1, when I start the engine the whole car shakes, and sometimes cuts out. It doesn't happen everytime, usually when the car hasn't been started for a few hours. Once i rev the engine and get going its totally fine. Any ideas? Someone has suggested it needs new spark plugs?

It soundss like one of the cylinders not firing. I would check the plug leads first.

This forum is for owners of the 206CC which doesn't come with a 1.1 engine. Follow the bit in red at the bottom of all my posts, and I will try and help.
Cheers Col.

No plug leads on any 206 but sounds fuel related if revving helps. You might need a diagnostic when cold to see if that throws any thing up ..

How do they get the plugs to spark? These modern cars do my head in.

Tenpole: instead of one coil and a distributor to send volts to plugs via ht leads, it's a small coil on each plug and the ecu dictates which one fires. The order and frequency is via the crank, and often cam, senders.

If you think the Pug is complicated try a twinspark Alfa. Four cylinders, eight plugs. Recent cars have four coilpacks which each feed two plugs and not necessarily on same cylinder. The older ones had TWO distributors and normal HT leads. Luckily electronic ignition so no points.

My current Alfa engine is twin cam and has two balance cams with a separate belt drive. So you need to align two lots of gears to the crank. Oh and no such luxury of a Haynes manual!!!

I cut my teeth on A-series inline engines. And building another one now ... Classic Car project.

I'll see your eight plugs, and raise you.............. :big-grin:

I see India are exporting the single cylinder Enfield. Less stress.

So can you still pull the 'COP' on each to see which cylinder in not firing right for example.

Not on the 206 ... They are built into a single unit.

I'll try and remember to post it later this week!

So if one coil goes you replace all. What is the point Peugeot?

Imaginge doing anything on it let alone plug leads!
Looks like an aircooled Gulf racing Porche but the colour is wrong and I think they were flat 12's.
What is it?
Not your Alfa obviously!

Prototype Porsche 917 16-cylinder engine. Saw it at Goodwood FoS last year.

Flat 16-cylinder, with two sparks per cylinder. Twin distributors and 16 plugs to each!! Also the camshafts are centrally-driven .. that would be under that massive fan! Would hate having to time that one up!!

840bhp apparently!
