immobiliser information display

Post by puzzledbloke »

Hi again. Sorry to ask another question so soon, and I'm afraid this one is going to be a real newbie one. I've read the handbook and searched the forum, possibly not very well.

Daughter's car, 51 plate 1.6 manual petrol. Came with two keys, one looks original and starts car, other looks like a copy and doesn't start car, though it cranks.

I'm assuming the immobiliser isn't seeing the transponder, or transponder not added to bsi.
Could anybody tell me please do the messages displayed indicate which? Happy to buy PP, but like to know before I get to the car if I'm going to need a chip/key too - or even if i can get the workkng key chip cloned? I'd assume that would be cheaper than pp plus key...

Many thanks yet again!

There probably isn't a transponder in copy key.
Cheers Col.

Hi Col.

Thanks for coming back so quickly. I was wondering if it was that, just hoping might be able to be sure so i can order chip or not. Seen a lot of posts from people whose cars mysteriously wouldn't start, then remember the key came apart when dropped or they'd just changed the battery. The vws and fords i've had always told you what issue was, with a blink code or whatever.

Problem I have is car is not very accessible and I've not had a peugeot key apart so not sure how easy it would be for her to get inside without spearing herself, or to spot the chip without dropping the battery...

Is there a known chip type for these do you happen to know? Come across references to id45 and id46...

If she tries starting it with the 'spare' but holds the original close to the ignition switch at the same time does it start?
That would probably confirm no chip or not in bsi.

If the original key is the original you can get a transponder chip from a guy on 206info forum. Lee I think. Just needs you vin no and a small donation to his beer fund. He did mine and supplied some ither info (rafio code, etc).

Thanks very much Gazza. Will get daughter to give it a try. . I'll go and have a look on 206info for Lee too. Cheaper than pp i'm sure!

Edit....Just checked for Lee. Came across a post... that said he would be hard to find .... as he's moved to Canada!
Bit more looking I think :-)

Thanks again to both of you.
