Can anybody tell me how to change the air filter please, I have done a search but it doesn't give a step by step guide, and if i have missed it i do apologise.
I thought it may be easy but it does not look like it could be, too many boxes and pipes for my liking.

#1 A rectangular air box about 500mm X 150mm which has 6 screws holding the lid on. You will need to loosen the jubilee clip at the rear left (as you look at it from standing in front of the car) You also need to CAREFULLY remove the breather by squeezing the 2 yellow clips together and pulling the pipe off. Undo the 6 screws, remove the top and you will see the filter
#2 If you have the earlier version (with a square filter) You will find at the passenger side of the engine, in front of the battery is a square *box* (with a flexible pipe entering it) either held down with screws or clips.
Undo the fixings and it will flex out of the way enough to get to the filter.

I have number 1 I believe. I have 2 oblong boxes and 1 square box all connected one way or another, there is a big silver jubilee clip over the back towards the bulk head, i am guessing its the longer rectangular box that is at 90 degree to the bulk head that holds the air filter.

Make sure when you put the top back on that everything fits together perfectly and the screws are tight. Otherwise it has been known for water to get into the airfilter in wet weather and soak the filter element. You don't want that to happen.

Just got back from a weekend away, thanks for the reply guys. i will attempt that job over the next couple of days. Is the oblong box that olds the filter the one that runs from the front of the car to bulk head or the one that runs from left to right?
If it's the same as our 2005 1.6 Allure then front to back. It is awkward to get at the rearmost screws because of the bulkhead. Make sure you use a well fitting screwdriver else you'll have trouble and could cause damage.

ok my fellow helpers, you got me through it, It's a wee bit tight and awkward but I did do it ok....well I dropped the screw from the left hand side that is under that "whats it" pipe and it vanished into thin air so I need to replace that but all in all I am happy that its been changed now.
So far i have done the pollen filter EASY PEASEY and the air filter, I will not do the oil filter but that's next then the plugs, and the clutch and rear pads and fluid. Getting there so THANKS GUYS

When I was younger I did one and I learned that it should be left to the professionals. I have been quoted £170-£200 ish (if it splits easy) for fitting as I already bought the clutch kit.
Did several clutches when engines were in the right way .. ie inline .. but only did a couple of Minis and a Maestro when things when sideways! I chickened out of my Alfa a couple of years back as it just looked way too tight .. and cost me an arm and a leg and I supplied the replacement gearbox .. and I couldn't get the bolts out of the 206 HDi!!! There are some hex allen headed bolts and when the engine was replaced they must have got Guy the Gorilla to do them up ... impossible to get enough leverage lying under the car.
(btw that new engine was fitted at 60, yes sixty, miles!! Head gasket went and Peugeot fitted a new engine under warranty!)
