Key fob range

Post by Spitfire6 »

Hi,
My key fobs have new CR2016 cells. Cell voltage is +3.3Volt. So Cell is good.

I have to be within 8 metres of my car to remotely lock/unlock the car.
Does anyone know where the receiver is? I would like to add an external antenna.

I have had the PP2000 connected to the car and cannot find anywhere where I can make the car "bleep" when it unlocks/Locks, I guess this was never implemented.

Cheers,
Iain

about 8 metres seems to be the limit of range on mine also (05 model)
ive not heard of any beeps and the manual doesn't suggest any audible signals for deadlocking etc
just indicator flashing

The remote control receiver is an integral part of the BSI unit which is located behind the lower cover on the driver's side of the facia where it is situated directly beneath the fusebox.

Thanks both of you.

So eight meters only. Blah.

A horn connected between one indicator and ignition via a diode would give a signal when alarm was arming/disarming. simples.

As the BSI appears to contain the receiver an I assume it is metal encased, an extension of the antenna by the correct amount will increase the range tenfold.
Now if the BSI is plastic cased the antenna is probably internal. An external antennal (wire) of the correct length would need to be soldered or conductively glued to extend its range. simple ish.

Cheers,
Iain.
