Roof Problem (latch thingy)

Post by Spitfire6 »

Hi,
when I close or lower the roof electrically I have a problem unless I do something.

When the roof is lowered I must open and close the boot so I can lower or raise the windows.
When the roof is up I must open and close the boot so that the rear demister works and the bleeping while driving ceases.

In both cases the rear passenger "latch" clicks into place and sorts all the problems.
Any idea to what I need to adjust to stop having to open the boot to allow the latch to click into place?
I have tried adjusting cables and the bracket with no success.

Cheers,
Iain.

Were you perhaps not parked on level ground? I had a similar experience when I parked on some rough ground which tilted the front of the car to the right, but not the back (if you see what I mean  ). Moved it to level ground and problem solved.

Clearly, the body is not very stiff in the longitudinal direction, and the torsion prevents the roof catch fully engaging. In your case, the bang of the boot lid is enough to disturb the body, and the catch can snap-in.

If it happens on level ground, try jacking each of the rear corners in turn to see when the problem goes. If that works, you will know which way the body is twisted. Then, perhaps a crash repair place can "bend it back".

Hi there,
Sorry for belated reply.
A good point about the body flexing. I always park on and off the kerb because of narrow streets where I live.
Tried parking the other way round with no joy.

tried to adjust a few nuts and brackets with no joy as not sure what I am doing.. Even tried adjusting a cable with no luck.

No a big deal to live with I guess..

Thanks,
Iain.
