hi,
I have a 51 plate 2L cc.
The rear offside wheel was making a rubbing noise more so when turning left. When I took the wheel off the inner wheel arch was down to the metal in a couple of places from the tyre wall.
Put the wheel back on and there is nothing obvious other than the wheel touching on that side and about 2cm clearance on the near side.
Any advice on where to start, is this a common problem?
Thanks in advance
Rex

Re: Suspension or bearing?
I had some previous owners wear on my inner wing. Since I have owned it not aware of the tyre fouling on the inner wing.

Re: Suspension or bearing?
Either a bent axle or more likely axle bush/ bearing worn. With it jacked up, can you rock the wheel?

Re: Suspension or bearing?
No there isn't any obvious play in the wheel but that may be as its touching the wheel arch?
I've had the car since March this year and average about 15 miles a week. MOT was in April and no problems at all.
Only been hearing the noise about a week and haven't gone over any holes or clouted any kerbs.

Re: Suspension or bearing?
You have to strong arm it to get it to move.
Cheers Col.

Re: Suspension or bearing?
Hopefully this will go to the top again when I post this?!?
It turns out after 5 different garages looked at it that it's the axle that needs replacing as the bearings have seized.
I have found £225 online for a reconditioned unit. They will also take £100 on top to fit it but I can't get it to Lincolnshire!
Has anybody else been through this and am I throwing money at something that I shouldn't!
Cheers

Re: Suspension or bearing?
I got mine from imaxles on ebay its £205 for the axle and £30 delivery, they send it, you swap it over then give them a call and they collect the old one.
It will more than likely last 2 years tops but for the money you cant go wrong as its completely stripped and all fixings are new so no rust anywhere. All you need to change is the hubs and brakes, its fairly easy, it all comes off without disconnecting any brake lines so no bleeding.
You will need a 3 lever hub puller and new axle nuts, also you will need a T50 torx bit socket from halfords £6 and a heat gun to remove the bolts holding the strengtheners to the box section underneath the boot and know a lot of swear words
