hi guys
relatively new to this site as i have just been given a 206cc by a company that was closing down and it was sat at the back of their unit, i decided to take it and give it some love and then give it to my mother for christmas as she loves them
the reason the car had been sat there and left is that the windows, roof and mirrors didnt work
did some research on here and found the most likely cause to be the roof control module, got one of those today and installed it and now have a working roof, mirrors and passenger side window but the drivers side window remains open and refuses to close (both front window and rear quarter light are open)
had a good check of all the fuses and replaced a couple that looked a bit old and crusty but still no joy so does anyone have any ideas, my first thought was the switch but looking on the good old bay of e there are several different types and there not cheap for it to end up not being that so thought it was worth asking here first
the car is a 2002 1.6 automatic (i dont know the exact model as i havnt had the v5 back yet)
any ideas are greatly appreciated
cheers pete

Re: drivers side window wont close
I would check the switch first, then take the door card and rear panel off and check the motors work.
Cheers Col.

Re: drivers side window wont close
Hey!
I'll try to be as clear as possible, hoping that it might help you, although you probably solved your problem by now.
Here is how the windows work on a 206 cc. Whenever you activate the switch, the system will first check the position of the quarter light (the rear window). If it sees that the window is not up, the on-board computer will activate a small electrical motor that is located behind the rear passenger side panel, right below the window itself and attempt to move the rear window up or down. This motor will pull or release a steel cable that is kept in tension by a series of pulleys and that is connected to a moving frame attached to the glass via three bolts. The system is also able to register whether the motor did its job properly. Once the first motor is done and only then the computer will move on to the front window.
Now three things come to my mind that might cause that specific behavior you're experiencing, so let's try to go through them and narrow down your problem:
1 - Faulty switch. If the switch is somehow failing to tell the computer "dude, kinda chilly in here, the big boss would like not to freeze so let's roll that window up" of course nothing will happen. It's unusual that only one window is affected, though, as the switches come in a single block. This is the easiest to fix as replacing the switches should suffice. You can pick a spare up on e-bay and they come relatively cheap. Alternatively any scrapyard that deals in Peugeot should have them.
2 - Broken Steel Cable. As I told you before, the rear motor needs to complete its cycle before the front one starts. If the steel cable is loose or has snapped, you'll hear a rather metallic cacophony going on as long as you keep the switch pressed. Your car might also beep in the process, attempting to inform you that the motor is blocked or can't do its job.
3 - Motor has decided to sit. This might be either the front or the rear one. (Just in case I'm mixing up idioms in different languages, that means the motor has stopped working). The fact that your quarter light doesn't move makes me think it could be a problem with the rear one. You can access the rear panel, and use a voltmeter to make sure that the motor is receiving power. You'll see that the motor is connected to the rest of the vehicle through a short cable. Check the connector for dust/rust and make sure that the cable itself is not broken by testing it with the meter. Once you are sure power is flowing, you'll be left with only the motor to be the possible cause of your troubles.
Now when it comes to steel cables or motors, repair kits can be picked up online but the solution that worked for me was changing the whole panel. I was asked for over 230€ for a single original new panel without the glass from an unnamed auto-parts shop. I visited a few scrapyards and I was able to secure a couple for a grand-total of 80€ and a few hours of work (the dude was kind enough to take a few bucks off the price if I took them out myself). Removing or refitting those panels is hell, though, and I strongly suggest you get an aide to hold the glass for you while you fiddle with the multiple bots and screws that keep the system in place. Also remember that in order to access the rear quarter panel you'll need to remove your rear seats, the various covers, the rear seat-belt and in my case I also had to rip through a thin layer of protective paper. You'll also need clear access to the side of your car, so I suggest keeping your retractable roof folded while you work on the windows. An inspection lamp (one of those your mechanic uses to illuminate dark spots) will make your job a LOT easier.
You'll find guides for most of these steps on this website, although I am not authorized to post links as my account is still pretty new around here. This particular job is clearly not a quick or easy one (I ended up scratching one my hands pretty badly while trying to dislodge the panel from the side opening and it took me almost 5 hours to change both panels) but it is a pretty straight-forward one and generally speaking you shouldn't be able to screw anything up (the only thing you need to be particularly careful with is the glass itself, as excessive violence might result in it cracking or shattering).
Best of luck and let me know if you need any more help.

Hi Alecossy,
do you know how the on board computer senses the position of the light rear windows. I also disassemble mine since not operating, but I did not see any microswitch or sensor. the wiring is only 2 wires for operating the motors.

Sorry, been a while since I checked the forum. I'm guessing, but I'd say the motor would finish its cycle and signal the computer that everything went well. I'll get back to you if I find more.
