New Driver...
I bought a 2001 Peugeot 206 last Summer, and only passed my test this Monday just gone. I am a total novice when it comes to looking after cars. I hope you guys don't mind, but i have tons of questions to ask! What do i need to do regarding topping up oil, coolant level etc. Are these things that i should be doing myself? The car passed it's M.O.T. just before i bought it and i haven't had it serviced yet, should i think about doing it now? What tools etc. should i be thinking of buying? Is it possible to replace the original car stereo with something better? Also can i replace the speakers myself? Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: New Driver...
Hi Summers. The best thing to do is study the owners handbook where it will tell you how to check the things you ask about, and other things which you didn't such as tyre pressures and correct type of oil etc:
It you didn't get a handbook you can download one here http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/downloads/handbook.pdf
Regarding your stereo, there is a load of info in the I.C.E section of the forum. You will see it's not always straightforward.
One thing you need to check is the timing belt (cambelt) It should be done @ 80,000 or 120months. Make sure it has been.
If this doesn't answer your question then come back here and ask away.

Re: New Driver...
Peugeot speakers have plugs to connect to the wiring so it isn't straightforward.
What model 206? ...
Personally I'd get the timing belt changed now unless ypu have proof it was done in last 5-6 year ... 10 is too long for me ... I've seen first hand what happens if one fails.

I am not sure you need many tools as a novice mechanic unless you have an interest in trying out car repairs. Modern cars are a pain to work on.
