Punctures.

Post by mark farrier »

Thankfully......so far I have not had a puncture.
I have the original aerosols, and guess they have a use by date.
They would now be thirteen years old...same age as the car.
Are they still of any use ?
I have bought a back up.....(Holts, I think) just in case.
Better safe than sorry.
Firstly, do they do a reasonable job, and secondly can the tyre be repaired after using the
aerosol or is a new tyre required.
I know it depends on the damage to the tyre but does using the aerosol mean the tyre
has to be scrapped and replaced.

Tyre fitters don't like to sort these out when they have been filled as the tyre is full of gunk .. makes a real mess on the floor when it comes off. Warn them in you have .. they might say no.

I think the early aerosols were worse, but if i remember the Holts once does say the tyre can be repaired. It's always down to where the puncture is .. too close to the sidewall and it's for the bin. It got a couple of spares in the shed for my daughter's with old but just usable tyres we keep for emergencies. They do loose pressure but stay up a few days while the proper tyres are fixed/replaced.

Obviously if the hole is large a aerosol won't work .. but then the tyre's toast anyway.
