Thanks Ian, I'll have another look tonight. I doubt I'll get round to doing it this weekend after all, but the sooner the better really. I have no idea what is currently in and it was a tad on the low side when we got it, so I topped it up with some Shell Helix Ultra, but I'm not one for mixing oils myself (esp part synth and fully synth).IanL wrote:According to the Peugeot Service Box, your filter is a cartridge, mounted below a casting which projects from the front of the cylinder block.

Very nice, too.
Well, part synth is a mixture of fully synth and mineral oil, so adding more fully synth can only be an improvement....but I'm not one for mixing oils myself (esp part synth and fully synth)

Very true, I've always been told not to mix though. Don't know if that's just a scare tactic mindIanL wrote:Very nice, too.

Most of the other things I need to check are okay for the moment. I'll probably check the roof oil reservoir nearer the summer months as I doubt we'll be using it now, but it's working very well at the moment so hopefully it's been maintained okay

Re: New 206cc Owner - What to look for
OK, so I need to scan the car. Apparently it is flashing STOP when she drives it. Now I am wondering if that's being caused by the boot lid bouncing up and down because when the doors are open, it flashes stop as well.
Oil is fine, so I need to check coolant and brake fluid levels.
I'm starting to think there's a blow in the exhaust, which might be causing the anti-pollution fault
All the fun eh?

Probably just needs slight adjusting on the boot catch on the rear panel.Skezza wrote:OK, so I need to scan the car. Apparently it is flashing STOP when she drives it. It will .. even if it it far beyond the lambda's .. the rear joint is most likely or the centre silencer can take a whack from a speed bump and crack. (Been there, have the t-shirt!)Skezza wrote:I'm starting to think there's a blow in the exhaust, which might be causing the anti-pollution faultAll the fun eh?

Is it something that can be fixed without welding? i.e. a gasket replacement? part replacement? or baked bean can ?
How many parts is the exhaust? Obviously I'll need to get it up and have a look first.

Slightly concerned about the engine in this one. Having put in over 1.5 litres of 5w30. It has seemingly consumed most of it in about 500 miles? That seems a hell of a lot. I've put in another litre of 10w40, hopefully the thicker oil will help, but if there's an oil leak or worse still, the piston rings are fucked, then this might not end well.
Going to head to ECP today, get a big bottle of oil.

OK, so I think the internal oil level sensor is telling porkies. Wednesday night it said it was empty, even after topping up. Last night it said it was full. The dipstick said half way. I've topped up some more and going to regularly check it now.
It needs a service for sure.

So she had a first genuine issue on Saturday. coil pack went. Drove it on 2 or 3 cylinders then swapped out the old one.
I'm thinking it might be best swap the HT leads and spark plugs too.

OK so apparently 206 CC's don't have leads? Just plugs?

Yes, the coil pack just plugs onto the spark plugs.

Re: New 206cc Owner - What to look for
Ordered some new plugs, oil, filter, air filter, pollen filter etc. All tooled up ready to go, and now just realized what the spanner + mileage means. It currently says 18000 which means 18000 UNTIL the next service. I feel a bit of a moron now, seeing as I've been telling my missus it's been 18000 miles since the last service (that's VW).
Perhaps it's not as desperate for a service as I thought. That said, I'm not overly happy with it. It came to us a bit low on oil, so either it's burnt through the oil, or the guy's just reset the service indicator... we also don't know what's in and that in itself is very worrying for me. I am in two minds as to simply change it, then I can at least know what is going on inside. I'm definitely going to change the plugs. Maybe I'll wait until it warms up and then change the oil. Then if it has been changed she can at least get a bit of mileage out of it.
Very hard to tell though.
