Blower....again! Sorry.

Post by noo6py »

Hi, I have a 206cc, 2002 reg 2.0l and the blower is ridiculous. Sometimes it will squeal into life and come on at high speed, regardless of the setting..others not at all regardless of setting.
Based on some of the threads that I've read on here I thought that it was the resistor so purchased part TP645EP but the mechanic couldn't even find this in the car. Is the resistor in the main unit with the fascia, will I need to replace the whole thing? It's a digital unit with aircon, button (not dials)...I would upload a pic but the format is invalid.
Any help or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks! :-)

The resistor is built into the blower fan itself on that type I have same system, you can get to it from the passenger side footwell reach up the back with a pozidrive screwdriver and torch and remove the screw/s then twist the blower motor and it will come out, the resistor is underneath the fan blade which you will need to pull off to get to it.

Hi Slo, thanks so much...I've managed to remove the blower and the part is on order!! You were right on the type :) I wonder if you could help me locate the pollen filter and how to remove too? If you could, I would really appreciate it. :)I'm female and have never done any of this before, I'm quite proud of myself so far!!

Your welcome, theres a large area of space behind the drivers strut which has that bonnet seal curl around it, look into the space at the back and slightly higher up is the pillen filter it can be a pain to grab it but should be loose it will be very dirty.

Okay, pollen filter located and removed...it's fairly disgusting so I'll be replacing that! :) Thanks again Slo. One absolute final question, since the motor tends to squeal as if stuck and only sometimes bursts into life I want to test the unit. Just to make sure that it's only the resistor. I have a car charger pack...the type that you plug into a home power point. Could I use that? If nit, is there another way? Thanks again, so much! :)

I wouldnt reccomend ruinning the fan off anything but a car battery that thing will pull some serious amps. If its squealing it will always squeal, the random functioning is definitely down to the internal resistor

It may be worth replacing the whole motor unit as it sounds like the bearings are going
Cheers Col.
