instrument cluster failure

Ok i need advice.just brought 2001 2.0 206 speedo petrol temp and rev counter out odometer also.indicator and headlight comes up so theres power to board!i replaced with a 2nd hand one and same issue however there was some noise to the rev conter and the temp gauge bounced!is this a common issue should i get another panel?or call out a auto electrician?

I suspect a BSI fault. First step is to perform a BSI reboot - it's quick and zero-cost. 2nd step is a Peugeot Planet 2000 diagnostic test.

So install new dash and reboot

But make sure it is the correct dash for your car .. 2001 PROBABLY needs a PRE-MUX unit, and petrol and diesel are different (diesel max revs will be lower)

If the radio (assuming standard) has a display and isn't a rectangular shape (it's more rounded/curved), the radio remote stalk if long &thin and the air-bag is held on with two screws (round holes on the back) you have a PRE-MUX car. I THINK the centre multi-function display has FOUR bulbs (pop the dash top off to check).

Problem is, that car is 15 years old so an original radio is getting rare and owners sometime remove the remotes if they don't use it with a replacement radio. Non-standard steering wheels with no airbags turn up too.


(A multiplex car has no display in the standard radio, a shorter, flatter remote and the airbag clips on (has two small oblong holes on back). There are probably other differences, but they aren't as visible.
