Wing mirror

Post by j2112 »

The driver's side wing mirror is apparently broken. The part that houses the actual mirror is loose and I can actually remove it from the base (apart from the wiring).
Can this part of the unit be replaced on its own, or only as a 'whole'?
I appreciate the mirrors from a standard car have different base plates / triangles but they are easier to get and may make sense to simply replace the end piece?
Cheers

From what I saw when replaced one recently ... It's the whole unit.

You could try but all I saw was a lot of corrosion!

I haven't done it, but I think you could cannibalise a hatchback mirror unit to get the mirror insert as a replacement. You would probably need to splice the wires.

Had the same problem......wing mirror loose, broken from base, but electrics still worked.
Replaced with new kit, plastic parts only.....cost (hope you're sitting down) £127.00 plus VAT.
That was parts only, not fitting.
I would guess that wing mirrors are standard with several models.
I am sure someone on the forum with far more knowledge than me will advise in due course.
It does however seem that all spares for all models of cars are very expensive....I guess it's
how they make after sales money/profit......better known as rip - off.
I would have shopped round but was pushed for time with MOT due and other issues.

Mine was plastic parts only Gazza. The coloured part of the mirror (on top) was saved
from the damaged mirror, and rehoused in the new plastic trim.
Was the secondhand one you found for 206cc only ?
