Gday from Perth WA.
I have a 2002 206 auto and I have a random misfire especially in the mornings, I have also noted that my temp guage is not working.
Is the cold idle circuit linked in with the temp gauge.
I have put new plugs in and checked all the connections to the coil pack and cant seem to find anything untoward.
I have noticed that whenever the car misfires the serpentine belt also squeals, not sure if the two are related or if it just a coincidence.
My only thought on this is possibly the crank angle sensor gets confused when the belt slips.
Looking forward to hearing from those smarter than I.
PS it has a new serpentine belt and a new tensioner is being fitted as soon as it arrives from Frog land.

The crank angle sensor reads the flywheel, so the squeal is an effect of the misfire, not a cause.
It would be a good idea to get a Peugeot Planet 2000 reading of fault codes, but if you want to continue with parts roulette, you could try changing the coil pack. If you get a used one, you may be able to return it if it does not help.
On the other hand, the Coolant Temp Sensor feeds the Engine ECU, which also controls the ignition timing, so, if it's all caused by a single fault, you may have a problem with the Engine ECU, or associated wiring.

Hope you've used Bosch (or Peugeot branded plugs). Our Peugeots often don't seem to like any other make such as NGK.

If it's like the one on our 1.4 you pull the connector off, pull out a spring clip, pull the sender .. try and stop too much coolant pouring out ... plug in the new one, and push the clip back then the connector.gusthewonderslug wrote:Ian

TBH I haven't looked at the 2.0 one! It's never been a problem ..

It's the same for the 1.6. The sensor is plugged into the thermostat housing above the flywheel, marked 4005 2V VE on the drawing.
