The other day my clamp broke on my exhaust. Before I pulled over to see what had happened it had caught something on the road and had knocked the exhaust against the heat shield breaking two of the connectors. I ripped the exhaust off, would you believe it was raining torrentially while having to get under the car.
I bought two new clamps and while fitting these I noticed the hanging heat shield. I did not have my glasses on so it was hard to see but it looks as though it is joined with a nylon connector similiar to interior trim. All I can see is the nylon spacer with a hole where the connecting part should be. I cant see if this has a thread in it or if this part is all that is left of a snapped part. I was going to get a large self tapper and screw that in as I cant see why it would have a delicate connection.
Also is exhaust assembly compound essential or pointless on this peugeot type of assembly as I cant see it working very well with the way the join is.
