Got me stumped.....
Hi all....I have a 206cc 1.6l 2003. This morning my wife drove up the stables fine with no issues...upon leaving, the car hesitated and didnt rev over 2000rpm....she kept driving (as no lights were on the dash) and it just got worse...she had to abandon it some way away from home...I had a look tonight (at the side of the road) and upon starting I, it seems to have one hell of a missfire?? And eventually stalls? Upon restart it cranks over 1 or 2 turns and seems to "hydraulic" and jams up. But starts and misses again...it won't rev at all just does? .this doesn't seem to be a mechanical jam...but a compression over fueling issue ... Maybe I'm over thinking it??
Battery is ok, and still not a warning light in sight..
Any ideas?. As I need it running asap..

If it is over-fueling, I think the thing to suspect is the air sensor (combined manifold pressure and temperature). They are cheap.
But it would be good to get Peugeot Planet 2000 onto it.
There is something else you can try, but I'm not very confident it would work in this case. If the cylinders are flooded with fuel, crank the engine with the accelerator held to the floor. This cuts off fuel injection, and the engine basically acts as an air pump, blowing the fuel out and drying the plugs. Eventually, the mixture strength reduces to a viable level, and it coughs into life, at which point you release the accelerator. If the reason for flooding was a temporary glitch, all will be well. Not just theory - it worked on my daughter's 206.

Unlikely to be hydraulic lock-the injectors just don't flow enough fuel.
What is the cambelt history? May have jumped a tooth or 2 on the belt

Could be the coil pack .. when ours failed we didn't get the management light come on but the codes were in the ECU .. check the connection to the coil pack first.
I don't like the sound of the "jamming up" though .. wasn't raining heavily or had been and lots of deepish puddles around?

Hi peeps....thanks for the replies... Really appreciated..no puddles....was a dry day. Havnt done the cam belt yet. Only had the car a month (wife loves it!). And Havnt had a free weekend yet.
If the cam belt has slipped a tooth or two, is it an interference engine. I.e bent valves? :;-(
Or can I get away with fitting a new belt???.

Belt valves? Possibly. Try a compression test first ...
And don't just fit a new belt. Replace the tensioner and any idler wheels and also the water pump which is driven off the same belt ..

Bummer to hear about the interference timing....God I hope it's not that....could it be a coil pack? Or tdc sensor?
I'm a fully qualified HGV mechanic by trade so I do know my way around engines and whats involved in changing the cam belt...but petrols I tend to steer well clear of if poss! Give me a Cummins diesel or a lister any day!.

Ack. If like me and the rest you know your way around motors (Leyland 6/98 wet liners I cut my teeth on, as well as others), once the valves have kissed the pistons everything tends to spin again, albeit without compression.... The only other thing I can thing of is if it's well adanced for what ever reason and the detonation is locking up the cylinder.

Bugger.
Head gasket? Whip the plugs out and have a look - but I'd expect it to push the water out of the header rather than the other way round.

Hi guys....after a chat to the wife....it turns out that it would run with loads of revs..and she only got it out of the country roads (where the stables are) and back into the civilised world (town) by slipping the clutch..
I still Havnt picked it up from where it died yet...working too late..::-(
I aim to get it back in the morning. And have a good look at it!
I didn't attempt to plant my foot on the throttle (by the side of the road) just turned the key and it started just really rough.. Then it died and wouldn't start again..(splattered and engine turns and seems to hydraulic and then turn backwards???)
Definitely a spark...but whether it is at the correct time who knows...?
Does anyone have any ideas or actual readings for the coil pack test?
I want to hit the ground running, and not spend all weekend disgnosing bamd fixing it...

A good Pro EOBD scanner will work OK. He will probably have more success begging/buying/borrowing one of those than getting pp2k by the weekend.
You can test coil pack by removing from engine, fitting the spark plugs into C/pk and eathing them, and see if they all spark when engine cranked.

All the fluids are present and correct.....even still got fresh antifreeze still in it, that I changed when I got it...no discoloration or owt?
Will be getting it home today then the playing starts...I will keep you posted on my findings...so please keep watching/ advising in this post..:-)
