Hey guys, new 206 Peugeot owner.
I have encountered an issue with my 206 where the speedometer and odometer are not working at all.
They worked intermittently, showing that it may not be a 'dash' unit problem.
Through this time (including right now, the rev meter is working fine, as well as all other indicators 'fuel' etc)
I have heard that it may be the unit that calculates the speed of the car (connected to the gearbox?)
I'm wondering if it's something with fuses? I'm not sure on this side of things with cars and any help is appreciated.
Also, just had the thermostat replaced as it was cracked (or something) resulting in coolant leaking like crazy.
The joys of motoring.
Also is there anything else I should be aware of with 206's?

My speedometer does the same. Will suddenly drop off whilst driving then start working again. Working one minute then stopping the next. On and off. Can you help?

Re: Speedometer and odometer not working.
Its probably the drive gear inside the speedo housing. It fits around the long driveshaft where it enter the speedo housing so you have to drain the gearbox oil and remove the housing to access it. The most common cause is after removing the long driveshaft, when inserting it again not dead on centre the lugs that stick out are broken off which gives intermittent contact at first then breaks off completely eventually.
So if any of you have had a clutch change or the long driveshaft out thats probably why. The speed sensor (if you car has this setup, some are sensored from the abs) is a sod to change too as its in a really awkward position to get to but drain a bit of oil from the box first and remove it and spin it in a drill while someone checks the dash to see if its working before you go to the trouble of removing the driveshaft.
