Exhaust Fitment

Post by timj »

Hi I have a 206cc first register's in 2006. I need a new centre and back box. I've looked on line at the ones available but most seem to be up to 2005. The ones after being more expensive for some reason. However the earlier ones look like the ones on my car. Are they all the same or is there a difference. I would have thought the only thing that would change is the front pipe. If they are different can anyone tell me how to tell the difference?

I've come across this issue before buying a radiator for a where I was quoted double for the same radiator on another model!

Thank you
Tim

The date of first registration doesn't mean much. What matters is the manufacturing date, which is incorporated into a code (the DAM/MAD/ORGA Number) on the door pillar label (along with the tire pressures). See post #2 here for what it looks like.

There was a design change in late 2005.

Looking it up in the Service Box Documentation, if that number is less than 10556 (3 October 2005), you can safely buy the "2005" item. If it is 10557 or greater, you probably should not. If the number is 10556, it depends on pollution controls on the engine and which factory the car was built in (they had different changeover days), so you need to supply the last eight digits of the VIN so one can be sure.

However, some suppliers don't seem to recognise a difference - whether they have developed parts which fit all years, or are wrong, is anybody's guess. e.g. here.

Never had much luck getting any exhaust from fleabay apart from clamps .. it either last 5 minutes or simply doesn't fit!

At least on the 1.6 you don't have an integral catalytic converter with the main pipe as you do on the 2.0!

2.0 only has two parts from the manifold back, but the one in the middle with the cat is prone to getting clouted on speed bumps, pushed up and then the silencer box splits. That's expensive to keep replacing.

Thanks guys. Ian when you said probably should not was that because the fitment is different or because of emissions?
Thanks Tim

Sorry Tim, but I can't tell - maybe both - all I know is that Peugeot supply different parts for before and after that point.

Appearance-wise, the "before Oct 2005" intermediate box is oval in section and just behind the joining flange, whereas the "post Oct 2005" intermediate box is circular in section and smaller cross-sectional area, and is quite a bit further behind the flange.

The rear end of the joining pipes are also different - one has a kink.

If you are going by what you currently have fitted, you may have the wrong part if it was previously replaced, but if it fits and you have no problem with it......

EDIT: I'll put up the drawings, and you can make a judgement.
